Pro Poll

I’m curious to how Vegas users break down.

1. Full time for any broadcast, industrials, marketing, DVD for 500 + distribution.
2. Part time for any of the above listed + wedding & photo montages.
3. Full time for wedding videos.
4. Part time or sporadic paid work – or hobby video.

Thank you for your participation.

I would fall under the #1 category.

All of the options you listed, if paid, would make you a professional in my opinion. However, getting paid solely does not make anyone a pro but more importantly, your attitude and dedication to providing the best product possible and avoiding shortcuts that compromise quality.

I will agree that perhaps there is a different levels of pros. Not knocking your poll but trying to help prevent the stigma that unless you work for a big studio someone is not a pro.

I have made a little money in all that you listed but consider myself a pro because of the professional attitude I use regardless of the job size or payment. As long as you work hard to learn all that you can and do you your best to satisfy your customer, youre a pro in my book and a pro to be commended. :)

I don't usually get paid, so I guess I'm #4.

Yes, Liam, I'm with you on this - why do you want to know? . . Anyway, I don't fall into any of the above catergories - seessshh. . I feel soooo inadequate, I can't catergories myself!

Those who know my work will appreciate my difficulty . . . I do local-gov-community-event-based-docu-organistational-cultural-stuff . . . . . ah, nutz I hate this!

BUT I do get paid!

Grazie

#1 since 1977 - But most of my income is from 3D work (modeling / imaging / animation.) Oh, and a little web / IT work...

I guess when you're self-employed, you do what gets the bills paid ;-)

Hi Strategic,

There's a new Vegas board just starting up and you can do real polls! You might want to check out:

Lots of things happening over there!

Cheers,

There are two catagories of people in the world:

Those that put people in catagories,

And those that don't.

:)

I'm #4 btw.

Why the Poll? I’ve been curious for some time on how varied the types user of Vegas has.
I not a stock analyst checking on Sony Vegas for investors buys.
When I’ve “talked shop” with other video peers, the question has come up about the composition of user base of Vegas. I’ve told them I’m not sure what it really looks like, but whatever the video use - Vegas seems to fit the use very well.
So far the poll seems to indicate a wider spectrum of users then I might have thought.

If you feel you don’t fit the poll – please pick the one that is closest one. I.e. full time or part time break down would be a way to fit.

thanks for your time.

I guess I'm still in the #4 category, still doing free weddings, family HS graduations and birthdays etc. That changes next year now that my portfolio will be stocked up. Hopefully I'll be able to show clients what "Uncle Joe" cannot do with his handycam.

Where's the category for us that seem to be working for Sony and not getting a dime or any decent discounts off of new stuff? (just kidding)

#4 - As a retiree, it beats working at WalMart, and Uncle Sam helps subsidize the cost of my toys.

I don't use Vegas for the day job, though I'd love to.
