Problem solved

I just finished a project and attempted to render out in AVI. All appeared normal except when I played the AVI file there was audio but no video. Just days earlier I duplicated a similiar project and the AVI file was fine. After picking selected loop areas of the project and rendering I have found that if I select any area beyond the start of the project the AVI file works normal. However, if the very start of the project (frame 1) is included in either the selection or complete file for rendering then the video is not included in the final output. I am curious as to what is causing this anomaly. This only happen on this particular project as others projects were rendered okay. Thanks for any help with this problem. I am currently using Vegas version 5.0

Sorry for the delay, been flying a lot and this one got to the bottom of the threads before I saw it.
Since you're getting audio if you start after a specific point, my first question would be if you've got audio automation enabled, and have any audio envelopes in place that are causing the audio to mute or go to silent at a particular point. If you start playback after the mute, the automation may not be kicking in, depending on how it was implemented.

I always have audio, it's the video that is missing in the AVI file. Everything looks good on the preview as I scrub across the timeline. After I render the project there is no video in the AVI rendered file. If I render only a selected area of the project that does not include the very first frame then the video is included. However if I attempt to render the complete project or any portion of the project that includes the very first frame then there is no video. Audio is always present no matter how much of the project is rendered. Could there be something embedded in the first frame that confuses vegas and thereby no video gets rendered with the project?

I suppose there *could* be, but I'd be at a loss to know what it might be. What is the format of the original video? Captured where? Is this a converted DivX file, or some other 3rd party codec?
Any compositing envelope inserted?

Thanks for your reply Spot. I believe the problem was in Micorsoft's Window Media Player (v10.0). After having the same problem occur on another project, I went online to check for any Window Media Player updates. I had the latest update but evidently by checking for updates, whatever the culprit was fixed. All avi files play normal now. Vegas was never the problem, it was the media player.

Originally I did post it as a cry for help. No one responded so I edited the subject box to get some attention and move the post back up to the top. Thanks anyway.

What might be relavent here is after selecting Forge 8 with V6 and Preview render afterword sometimes the audio in Media Player is set automatically to "mute" in the player actions. Putting it back to "UP" restores the audioplayback in Media Player.
