Subject:Save WMA file with MBR?

Is there any way Sound Forge 8 can save a WMA file with multiple bit rates?

This seems to be possible when saving as a WMV file, but WMV files aren't supported if I'm trying to save a WAV file.

Thanks!

Are you looking for variable bit rate? You'd click the "Custom" button, then the "Audio" tab and select "Quality VBR," under, "Mode."

No, I'm looking to stuff several CBR streams into a single file. The user will get a different bit rate depending on his connection speed. Therefore, you can include a low-quality file for dial-up and a high-quality file for most broadband connections.

AFAICT, this can be done for a WMV file, but not for a WMA file.

Right now, we're using discreet's cleaner and Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder to create these MBR files, but it sure would be nice to do it straight from Sound Forge.

Not a killer problem for me, but one that would be nice to solve.

Thanks all!

I don't think you can do this using just SF, but you should be able to save individual WMAs at a selection of bitrates from SF and then combine them into a single MBR file using the Windows Media Stream Editor from the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series package at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

Oh, I see.

Maybe it's something SPD can help you with. Be sure to contact them to let them know what you want.

We already use a Windows Media command-line encoder to automatically save MBR files; I was just hoping that it could be done completely within Sound Forge, so we'd have one less application to deal with in our batch chain. It's not a huge deal; I was just curious. :)

Thanks for the help, everyone!
