I'm in the market for an soundcard/audio interface that will work well with Acid 5.0 and Orion. I've been eyeing the Emu 1280 and some other PCI cards, but I've read on another thread that there were some compatability issues with Acid. I've thought about going firewire/USB (like M-Audio or a Firebox/Pod), but I don't know that I'd get the MIDI performance out of those that I would need. The RME Fireface 800 looks pretty rockin', too, but it's kinda pricey. I'm currently running off my old Soundblaster Live Platinum card, which just ain't cuttin' the mustard. I'd like to keep it inexpensive ($500 or under), but I'm up for feedback on anything Any suggestions out there? Thanks! Pat |

I would give the M Audio cards a close look. I use them and they have worked flawlessly with acid pro including midi. However, I am starting to question the sound from the converters. Seems a little harsh but then again, I don't have anything to compare it to. my .02 |

Look at Echo's Layla and Gina cards. Totally solid with Sony apps. drbam |

I've been using Echo's MIDIMia for a couple of years with no issues. I believe its about $200 us. M-Audio has a card priced in the same range. |

I have an M-Audio Firewire 410. I got a Firewire device because I also wanted to be able to use it with my laptop. If you don’t need to move between PC’s I would recommend something PCI based like the Echo Layla 3G or Gina 3G. Firewire is not all it’s cracked up to be. If you don’t need a mic preamp built in, also look at the M-Audio Delta series. ~jr |

I use an Echo MiaMIDI, which has worked quite well for me. I used to use an M-Audio Audiophile 2496, which also worked well; it was a little more funky to configure though. Be sure to look carefully at what you'll need; for $500 or less, you can get quite a nice interface (Echo's Layla 3G and Gina 3G are steps up from the MiaMIDI in terms of input/output, for example).
