Subject:Plugins Crash Acid 5

Hi all....

In browsing through the various Acid threads, I've noticed a good number of folks having problems with Acid crashing on them. I haven't seen the plugin issue addressed, so I thought i might bring it up to see if I'm missing something.

I've had Acid 5 for about a month running on my Windows 2K P3 Abit with 512 RAM. Just the other day I loaded it up and tried to insert an FX plugin, and Acid gave me an error message. I don't recall exactly what the Windows error message was, but Dr. Watson tried to open it apparently, telling me it was a Windows 2000 error code 87. Below is the error log generated by Acid:

I have no idea what ANY of this means.

Furthermore, I can load VSTi instruments no problem. The issue is any of my other FX plugins (native DX plugs that came with Sony, or any of my other VST plugs....).

I've tried installing/reinstalling Acid 5. I had Acid 3 on my box too, so i took that off....still no luck.

Anybody know what to do? I put in a support request to Sony, but I thought someone out here might have some insight.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Pat

Hi Pat-

Not sure what that error means, but the first thing tech support will likely tell you would be to install the latest build (5.0b). In addition, you may want to note if ACID 3 was also having the same problem, or just ACID 5. When you install 5.0b, be sure to uninstall the previous version first, as that may clean up whatever went haywire. Also, which service pack are you using?

Thanks.

Isn't the "mscorwks.dll" a DLL that deals with .NET? (I don't know why it would screw with trying to insert an FX, but then again I'm not a coder either.)

Definitely try the ACID 5.0b update. Try completely uninstalling all versions of ACID and install only the update. (Be sure to have your serial key handy.)

I installed build 5.0b over the weekend, and totally unistalled Acid 3. Still no use. I never had any plugin problems with Acid 3, and I even used a VST/DX wrapper for VST FX plugins. As for the service pack, I have no idea. How do I find out about that? Where can I get a different one?

Thanks for the help!

Did you uninstall ACID 3 first before installing the 5.0b update?

You can find out which Service Pack you have by pressing the Windows logo key and PAUSE/BREAK.

Additionally, you might want to head over to Windows Update if you haven't done so.

I'd already unistalled Acid 3 by the time I installed the 5.0b update......

One thing I didn't do is uninstall the current Acid 5.0 before installing 5.0b.....I just installed the update with my current 5.0 on there. Would that make a big difference? What exactly is going on here?

I'll try out the Windows update, too. Thanks again for the tips! I'll keep you posted....

OK....so I've not installed any of the Windows Service Packs, nor have I done any Windows Updates. Is there any particular one I should try out? I tried downloading SP4 at work and taking it home - as I'm not online at home - and it wouldn't work. Apparently there is a version of SP4 that you can get that doesn't require a net connection, but I couldn't find it. Any ideas? Anybody?

Oh, and I tried taking ALL versions of Acid off my box, and doing a fresh install of 5.0b. Same problem.

Anyway, thanks for all the input! You folks are really helping me out!

You can pick up the Service Pack 4 CD-ROM by going here, but it'll cost you $10 (incl. S&H).

When you uninstalled everything, did you also delete any possible leftover folder residue? (Like "C:\Program Files\Sony\ACID Pro 5.0" and "C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 5.0"?)

You're welcome! :)

Now I haven't tried that, lacobus........I'll take a shot when I get home.

As for the SP4, I downloaded that earlier today, so I'll try that out too.

Is it possible that this is a problem with the plugins themselves?

Oh, the humanity!

Thanks again, guys!

It worked! SP4 solved the plugin issue, for now.

Now I've got another hurdle, which may rest beyond the scope of this forum:
Windows 2000 wants to format my D drive. After installing SP4, any time
I try to access my secondary hard drive, I'm told the drive needs to be formatted.

A simple fix, I hope....any ideas? Hope I'm not too OT here....

Thanks again, guys!
