I've recorded (9) wav files successfully. Media Player plays through all speakers (5.1 surround). Playback in Sound Forge however only comes through front speakers. I set SF wave Preferences in Options to Record and Playback with my soundcard. What else could be wrong? Gateway 554GE Pentium 4 HT Realtek HD Audio-->Auto Test is 'PERFECT'---(ALL speakers play) |

SOund Forge is a stereo editor. You are dealing with mono or stereo files. These will only play back through stereo (ie TWO) speakers. geoff |

Hi Geoff: Everything I have is stereo. While recording to Snd Forge I hear 'everything normally through all speakers'....yet when I go back, open the file to edit.........it's only coming out the front speakers. the Sub-woofer and rear speakers are off entirely??? Is there a way to get Snd Forge to play back a file like other players (media player, Roxio, etc.? The way it is right now I have to record to Snd Forge, Edit, then play back through Media Player to hear all the changes, then go back to Snd Forge etc. Too much flippin if you know what I mean. |

Roxio simply wraps WMP. Sound Forge is a stereo editor. MJ |

I guess I phrased my question wrong. I needed Audio Studio for it's Sound Editor functions. As a newbie I'm just getting my feet wet with the interface and I'm recording from old LP's and 45rpms. SF records them from the input of my soundcard PERFECTLY. I also hear all my analog EQ settings (as) it's intially being recorded(ON THE FLY). I then go to edit the wave file in SF. For some reason SF is NOT playing through my rear speakers. What is strange is the same wave file WILL play through the rear speakers in my other software?? There must be a setting in SF that I need to change. By the way ---I'm impressed with the quick responses in this forum. |

Sound Forge is a stereo and mono digital audio editor. (Technically, it can also work with with 5.1 audio rendered as separate mono files too, but that's only on a file-by-file basis; you can't listen to the entire mix.) You may monitor what's going on while you're recording in your additional speakers, but that may be something your sound card is taking care of at the time. Why do you need to hear the sound in the additional speakers? If you're not planning on using the audio in a surround setting, there's not much of a point. My Rear Speakers and Subwoofer act as a FILL and produce (for the most part) the final result that would be recorded to CD. The front speakers are simple PC desktop speakers and will not produce a reliable reference. (They sound like old car speakers by themselves.) I guess what I'm saying is the recording process sounds professional in the making-but the preview tells me little. I have no idea what to change or improve. My other alternative is to use my PRO-4AA Headset utilizing the PC mini-jack. I'm not sure there will be enough signal to drive them. At this point I will try more experiments and possible configurations with my sound card. I'm anxious to try the many enhancements available in Audio Studio. Thanks again for the input/questions etc. |

I'm posting this update for those following up on my original question. I've been informed that my HD audio is integrated on an Intel Augsburg motherboard. I will be contacting Sony to see if there's a way to activate the other audio output jacks via the SF software options. I'm hoping I won't have to buy an additional sound card. I only have one open PCI slot. I also haven't tried the headset yet. Message last edited on6/21/2005 6:16:08 PM byNATSOT4Me. |

Update: With MUCH regret I had to return my Audio Studio Software. I didn't hear back on my incident no. via e-mail from Sony and didn't realize until it was too late that other Editors (one I just installed) have the same effect. It must have something to do with my Intel915 Chipset with Integrated Audio [no separate sound card]. I wish I kept the Audio Studio-it had more capabilities even with my limitations. Any further comments or questions are still welcome and appreciated. Thanks |
