Subject:Strange record case... What happened? Help!

Hello. I used to record using AP. I did'nt record for some time, just mixing down records. Now i start to record again and find out verrrrry strange thing! Here are my steps:

1. I use a drum machine to create some rythm
2. I insert this drum loop into ACID
3. I plug in my guitar, combo etc.
4. I push "rec"
5. I hear drums, i play my guitar part, stop recording
6. Then i see all i played, i want to listen it (of course)
7. BUT!!! When i push "play" i hear completely straight drums, and COMPLETELY UNstraight guitar part!!! Just like it was playing a man who never plays guitar and never knows what is straight rythm!!!

How could it be? It repeats everytime. I try to record in Audition - everything is good... I didnt make any hardware and drivers changes since everything was good. Now i reinstall windows (xp sp2), and other applications - it didnt help. Maybe - some soft problems?..

What is it? Can somebody help me?

So the guitar part doesn't sound like it's in sync with the rest of your project?

Did you try unchecking the "make new track follow project tempo" option in the record dialog window?

"So the guitar part doesn't sound like it's in sync with the rest of your project?" - right, sometimes faster, sometimes slower

"Did you try unchecking the "make new track follow project tempo" option in the record dialog window?" - already tried - it didn't help

Vegas records good, but why ACID doesn't?..

It sounds like ACID is trying to apply its timestretching capability to the recording, but if you uncheck the "make new track follow project tempo" option, it shouldn't.

How are you setup for recording? If you're recording guitar via S/PDIF, ensure that your sound card/audio interface's sample rate is slaving to the master device (in this case whatever guitar processor you're using). Ensure also that you use a consistent sample rate for recording throughout. (Don't mix and match 44.1 kHz with 48 kHz, for example.)

My preferences of record at ACID are 44.1khz, how can i see driver's prefs? Card - sblive 5.1 digital. Tried to change to 48 at AP but no results. I found that card is playing out 48Khz, but i donno what is the rate of record...

I believe the Live does resample at 48 kHz internally even if you set the sample rate in ACID Pro to a different sample rate (like 44.1 kHz).

Changing the sample rate via the project's properties or via the record dialog window (it's at the bottom) universally changes the sample rate for both playback and recording. (e.g., if you change to 48 kHz for playback, then 48 kHz will be set for recording.)

Try setting to 48 kHz and see what happens. If you're still getting the funky playback for existing tracks, try resampling that particular track's content in a digital audio editor such as Sound Forge (if you have one).

Hi again,

Did you try and contact SPD concerning the matter? You can send them your project to see if they can reproduce the problem on their end.

If you can record multiple tracks in Vegas and they remain in sync, yet you can’t do the same in ACID Pro, I would contact Sony support. Make sure both ACID and Vegas are using the same settings, but this definitely sounds like a problem with ACID since Vegas works fine. Like Iacobus said, perhaps you can send Sony your project file and they can try and figure out what’s going on.

Thanks a lot. I will try, but does the project include all my ACID prefs? I hope yes, but think not. Anyway i will send it them. First ill check once again all the settings in Vegas and ACID, but i remember i did it. Hm-m-m.... But thank you guys.
