Subject:Can't read AP5a Projects with AP5b - Help !
Posted by: Zacchino

I updated a few days ago from AP5a to AP5b.

I just installed the update over the existing Acid installation. Like I did for 5.0 to 5.0a as far as I remember.

Now I'm in a quite obvious and unusual situation :
I can't read most the the work I've done with AP5a.

Actually, I can open the .acd projects, I cand see them, edit Fx, paint, and all this, that's ok. But when I hit play, Acid 5.0b just freeze. And not a gentle freeze like I have to wait only 30 secs to 1 minutes until Acid50.exe disappear from the Task Manager (and release my M-Audio Delta 44 Asio drivers). A Long freeze of 2 to 3 minutes before it disappear from the Task Manager.

So, I uninstalled / re-installed back my M-Audio WDM drivers... Nothing changed. I uninstalled / re-installed AP5b... Same thing.

This is not happening to all my project, but I'd say 95% of them. The other 5% I still can read are kind of "light" projects, without that much Fx and one or no VSTi.

I also tryied to solo one track of a AP5a *freezing* project, unselect all Fx, and hit play. Same thing. long Freeze.

I know this can't be a bug as it seems to be specific to something like a locked driver of anykind (GigaStudio ?).

I've just began starting again working on my AP5a projects, so I couldn't notice this before. Now I'm starting woryring a little.

I'm looking for workarounds. In the meanwhile, anyone has an Idea where this might come from.?

TIA

After some analysis of what the freezing AP5a song contained, it seems to be linked to ReWire. Seems that I'm always blaming Rewire...
Anyway, what is the version of RewireDLL to have ?

I tryied Uninstalling / re-installing my Reason 2.5. Still no effect on the issue. Same thing with GigaStudio.

Still looking for a workaround.

Fadengo,
When you are experiencing this behavior are you using ACID 5b in rewire mode (either as a host or slave) with Reason and/or GigaStudio?

I'm experiencing this without any rewire apps launched. Just Acid in standalone.

In my recent reply to my own post, I suggested that it didn't seem to be linked to Rewire.

It seems more linked to audio core or HDD (I have only 20% free of my 180Go HDD). But again, even with less that 10% free in my HDD, everything was Ok with AP5a.

PS : If someone here has the installation file of Acid Pro 5.0a, It would be very kind for me to upload it on my FTP site. Just email me and I'll email you back an FTP address and login/pass.

I upgraded my HP laptop to 5b and I am seeing some of the same problems. I did remove the asio4all driver, and that seemed to clear it up. The odd thing is I was not using this driver at all. I was using the windows wave drivers and my low rent built in sound on the laptop. I am still using acid 5.0 (1st version) on my mx desktop with digi asio drivers. I am not going to try and upgrade that machine until more people chime in on this one. Hope this little bit of info helps...

Ok that's weird.

For my part I'm not using any third party drivers. But it's possible that this obvious issue is related to audio drivers. As I reject the possibility that this is related to the HDD (now that I cleaned all my temp directories, no more disk space issue).

SonyPCH, if you have some time, could you please give us some clues, or some direction, or tell whatever information is needed to clear out this issue ?

Thanx in Advance

Ok, I still didn't find a way out for this issue.

If someone could upload on my personnal FTP Acid Pro 5.0a that'd be very helpful. Email me : [Removed]

I'm happy to see that it works well, back with Acid Pro 5.0a.

I'll miss the new mute functions ;-( .

Ow, that's normal. This is only happening to me and my songs, donno why. But I sent one of these to SonyTeam. I hope they'll be able to target the issue.

I might be the only guy using Acid in such an *extreme* way (remember, 5 instance of Waves Req per tracks sometimes), but I'm not messing up with my computer at all. And as I said, downgrading to AP5a solved (obviously) the issue.

Ah, I usually run Acid as a ReWire client of Cubase. I only have one Acid project that it is stand-alone, and it was the one that I created as I started learning Acid, so it is not as intense as your projects. This may explain something.

However, a friend of mine who is in the music press asked me to try running Ableton Live and Acid Pro in a ReWire configuartion. After we had some vey good luck with this setup, he asked me to write an article about it.

My contract is written such that should the magazine choose not to publish it, I can publish it myself from my website.

I actually had the same problem with 5a, and pinned it down to the ASIO drivers - nothing to do with rewire. Try changing the driver to "windows classic wave driver" or whatever it is in AP5 preferences, and see what happens.

The problem was fixed for me when RME updated their ASIO drivers.
