Crashing instead of burning

rmack350 wrote on 4/22/2005, 11:15 PM
When I try to burn a project using DVDa3 I can get as far as choosing the rendered project folder but every time I click "Next" DVDa3 crashes.

I have no idea if the program has detected my DVD burner. I don't see any indication of it in any of the menus.

The error I get starts out like this:

Sony DVD Architect
Version 3.0 (Build 106)
Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) READ:0x338 IP:0x59F75C
In Module 'dvdarch30.exe' at Address 0x400000 + 0x19F75C
Thread: Main ID=0x904 Stack=0x12C000-0x130000

Any Ideas?

I submitted this to support two days ago but I'm getting a bit impatient.

I have the exact same problem.

I hope you've sent a support note in to Sony. I still haven't seen a response on this.

I think I'll power down and disconnect my burner, just to see if it gets past the step where it crashes.

This sounds like a programming error.
In Visual Studio 6 the settings in question are found in Project/Settings/C/C++/CodeGeneration. They basically tell VC++ what kind of code to generate. I believe the native code should be java.exe and my guess is that it is NOT.

John

I could be wrong though.

I am having the same problem as well. I've created this great Menu DVD but I can't burning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
rmack350 wrote on 4/25/2005, 7:39 AM
If you can make the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders then you can do the burning with other software (like nero) so this isn't a show stopper. It's mighty annoying, though.

Interesting. I think only a few of us are seeing this.

If it's supposed to call java.exe ould the problem be that I don't have the jre installed?

I'm not sure how to make the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders. Any place you could point me to that could give me some assistance w/ that?

Those who are experiencing this crash, can you please post info about your computer and multimedia devices?

You can copy and paste the text from the 'Computer' and 'Multimedia Devices' pages of the About dialog (Help | About DVD Architect...).
ScottW wrote on 4/25/2005, 10:49 AM
When you clicked the "Prepare" button, DVDA asked you for a directory location - it then created the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders in that directory.

My computer is a Sony Vaio 2.4GHz running w/ 760 MB of RAM. I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002.

**Updated Info*** Running on a Pentium 4

This is a copy of the error I received when I tried to prepare to the DVD. It’s a little different from the previous posting.

Okay. Had a chance to check. JRE is installed on this system and at work. DVDA 3 on the system at work doesn't crash. System at home does.

System at work doesn't have a DVD burner in it so DVDA prompts to make an ISO image.

System at home crashes whether the DVD burner is installed or not. I'm going to take a leap and say that the burner isn't the issue but some other environmental factor is. (I liked the Java hint even though it seemed awfully unlikely. It seemed like the right kind of problem.

It's not a fatal problem but I think that if DVDa3 is going to fail at that point, I'd like it to do so with a little more grace. It's like a soap bubble right now.

I think we'll get to the bottom of it. I got a good response from Sony today. I'll post the solution if we find one.

Well, the answers were that the file exists on secondary master as "master" and that the burner was attached when I grabbed the info.

The drive itself is a Hi-Val 4x DVD+ - RW/ + - R dual IDE drive.
http://www.hival.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?ProdID=HDVDRW4D

You can also find the drive and firmware updates here:
http://www.accesstek.com.tw/_english/2_product/01_feature.php?hID=4

I want to point out that I'm getting the crashing even when the drive is removed from the system. I can choose the directory containing the files to burn but when I click "Next" DVDa3 crashes. I suspect that the drive isn't the problem but maybe there's conflicting burner software or DLLs on the system.

This drive worked with DVDa1, was undetected by DVDa2, and who knows what's happening with DVDa3 since it never gets that far.

I'm used to the drive not being detected but I think the crash is a little too much. Since it happens with no drive installed I don't think buying a more compatible drive is called for-the symptom indicates that the drive isn't the problem.

Maybe I should start removing all other burner software...
