Subject:update problem with NET Framework 1.1

Hi,

I just wanted to update from SF8 to 8a. The installer tells me in the middle if I would like to download Microsoft NET Framework version 1.1 SP1. Wel on my PC Service pack 2 is already installed. I downloaded and installed even though the above version, reboot PC, and try to install the 8a. With the result that I get the same message again. XP home, SP2 installed, no problem whatsoever with any other software-install. As I installed 8 there was no such problem. What can I do? Installing the Service Pack 1 again, but over 2, wouldn't be such a good idea? My music-PC is not connected to the Internet because it runs more stable since I changed that.
Suggestions what to do?

I have the exact same problem. I did not install 8.0 waiting instead for the release of first update. I got the same Microsoft Net Framework message. I uninstalled 8.0a and installed 8.0 and uninstalled it thinking this would install the software in the right folder or path that 8.0a was looking for. No dice. I have Acid 5.0 installed on this machine which uses that same frame work. Can installing Sony software on a machine be so difficult? It should be able to work seamlessly with other sony applications that are installed, especially if program defaults were used during their installations. Now I guess I'll have to take the online email support road, which the last time went for weeks before support was able to finally straighten me out.

Luckily enough I got the solution for us :-)). Was a bit of a puzzle though. I simply tried several times to install this NET Framework1.1, but soundforge kept on annoying me. Then I put all my internet-stuff on the music-PC, downloaded a WINDOWS update (the needed program and a Windows-Installer3.1 - package for example) - and now it worked.
I didn't want to go to the internet though with this machine. Well, anyhow, now it runs. No music today (after midnight here), but let's see how 8a behaves :-).
Hope this helps you too...simply run the Windows updates.

Unfortunately, this is not a solution for me. Hope SF/Sony folks respond to this thread. I've got dead lines and can't put up with this :(
(using a computer off the net, so it's worthless to have a prompt asking if want to go down to a download page for NET framework. How many users are there not connected to the internet? I'd say alot. And to be asked to go this without another SIMPLE option is ridiculous)

Got it up and working....what a pain!! Be prepared to reregister if you uninstall (I didn't try over writing, as I kept getting the the NET F~ prompt, so I thought unstalling sounded reasonable). Anyway, I would try NOT to uninstall first, cause it'll add a fair amount of time to the process. Since there appears to be no link supplied by Sony for the Service Pack, here it is:

It doesn't appear to be such a wide spread problem. I would suspect it's happening to us who have stuck with XP1st edition...just a guess. This could have been alot easier.......

Yeah what a pain, I got XPpro SP1 on an "audio only" PC and had to download NET Framework 1.1 from my other PC and bounce it over. What a pain, and I don't even want to be f----ing notified of anything. Probably a guise to spy, steal information or other unethical activity.
Well, at least 8a seems to fuction okay.

I agree! There should be some very simple way for the majority of professional users (majority meaning NOT internet connected) to avoid this.

Even though I'm on dial-up, I didn't think it was a hassle to download the 1.1 update for the .net software. Did it at midnight eastern. As someone here mentioned, if your daw isn't on the internet, download the update from MS using the link Sony provides, burn it to a cd rom, and sneaker-net it over to your daw. Double click on the .exe file. Install. Done.
The version number of the .net software has nothing to do with what windows XP version one is running. The .net stuff is running it's own set of version numbers.
drbam - the only way to avoid the problem is for Sony to offer the updates on CD rom, and even then you might not have the latest version of the software from MS.

On second thought, having Sony make the updates available on CD rom would be a Good Thing. I spent just over 4.5 hours baby-sitting the Acid 5.0b update download on Friday May 27. Pain in the butt. Approximately 90 freakin' meg on 56k dialup. Proceeding to eat my crow with fava beans and a nice chianti (spelling?).

After downloading and installing NET Framework SoundForge 8a also continued to insist that I install NET before continuing to install. I went to the Microsoft Windows Update Site and found there was a patch for my version of NET. So I downloaded the patch (I think it may of been a service pack for NET even) and then it installed without problems.

It would be great if Sony would put any required software on the CD - But then again, I am working with the trial version I downloaded :)
