I, am working with a m-auido fast track to record vocals with a senheisser e609 microphone. The vocals are only being recorded through the left side. I checked all the setting on my control panels. All the balances are set on the control panel for audio. Everything sounds just great but I can't get any vocal recording throught to the right side speakers. The music is comeing through both right and left but, I am only getting a reading from the left side on the recording monitor. If I use adapters I can plug my mic in the mic input on the sound card and get a vocal recording from both right and left, it just sounds like crap that way. So I am using the m-audio fast track (usb). Please if anybody has any suggestion It would be greatly appreciated, I am just a beginer and I'm very lost on this subject!!!!!!! |

You need to record to a mono track, not a stereo one. When you hit the record button, a window pops up for you to set your recording parameters. Down the bottom right-hand corner, select a mono source - (ie the left or right-hand input from your soundcard),otherwise it will record both channels of incoming audio from your soundcard. |

In addition to what jumbuk mentioned, be sure that if you're using ACID Pro to go to the Audio tab under Options > Preferences to set the correct playback device (which would be your M-Audio Fast Track if its drivers are installed correctly). Otherwise, you might not be able to select the proper input for recording. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid Buy Instant ACID by JohnnyRoy and mD! mD at ACIDplanet |

Thanks for hittin me back jumbuk! You seem to really know your stuff. I was wondering if you could help me just a little more? I hit the record button and went to the bottom corner and found the mono right and mono left. If I choose mono left I still only get a recording on the left side and if I choose mono right I get no recording at all and if I set it back to microsoft sound mapper I get a recording only from the left again. I'm sure all the balance settings are correct on my stereo and my computers control panel. And I set the the recording audio on control panel to m-audio fast track. My computer is recognizing M-audio and drivers were installed correctly. What else can I do? What am I missing here? I'm sure this is simple stuff for some but It's driving me crazy! Any advice is greatly welcomed!!! |

When you say "If I choose mono left I still only get a recording on the left side" what exactly do you mean? When you look at the recorded track, you should see only one track of audio squiggles (the wave picture). If you see two, then it is recording as stereo. You could also look at the track properties (right click, properties) and see whether it says mono or stereo. So, if you are recording to mono, that is the first bit that is working Ok. If it is still sounding like it is coming from the left channel only, that means you have the track panned hard left or something like that - check how it is panned. As jumbuk mentioned, when you record mono, ACID will distribute the signal equally to both left and right channels during playback. You'll see this represented by a singular waveform rather than two (which would be stereo). Check to see if the panning is distributed properly via the multipurpose slider for the particular track.
