Subject:SF7 & SF8 on same machine...

Hi,

Sound Forge 8's scrubbing ability is a godsend to me because I use workers on modified duties to assist with video production (editing VOs mostly) and Vegas is a bit overwhelming for them. Will SF8 have any adverse effects on SF7b when both are installed on the same PC? I'd hate to lose express Dynamics, NR2 and Wave Hammer functionality because I use SF7b extensively and haven't had any problems since 7b came outlst year.

I have SF8 on a laptop with at home and love it. I used it to fix up 8 hours of conference recording without a crash. However, this is on an XP Pro SP1 machine, whereas at work we are running W2K SP4 on LAN-connected PCs. I just bought three upgrades for my day job studio but am a bit leery about installing them if they will compromise SF7b. What are your opinions?

BTW: I haven't tried recording LINE IN with SF8 since that screw up a couple of weeks ago. I'll stick with SF7b for the nonce.

I have SF7b and SF8 installed on the same machine, and don't have any problems. I record with SF7b, and edit with SF8.

I did have SF7 and 8 on one machine with no problems (also SF6 and SF8 on another). My problems were so "no probema" tin both that I eventually blew away SF7 which yoiu may not wish to do..

-- Yes, I am beginning to be of the same opinion, that SF8 is quite stable enough for what we do.

I've read about bugs in SF8 but since the only tasks I use it for are cleaning up audio recorded on BetaSX or DVCAM and editing VOs I haven't noticed anything amiss (knock on wood). More sophisticated users obviously suffer workflow interruptions but we haven't yet. I will stick with S7b for recording though, at least until SF8b comes out. Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.
