I get an error message when starting Acid Pro 5a that says "media manager failed to initialize, this function will not be availabe". I have looked at the Sony knowledge database and installed the .NET framework as suggested, but I still get the error. It does not work. What is the fix for this problem? I'm running a non-internet connected DELL p4 that is a dedicated DAW. It has 512mb of memory, 2 Delta soundcards and NVIDIA video card. All the drivers are the latest available. |

I have the same exact problem. I am working with customer service on it now. I've tried just about everything posted in all the threads that I could find on the forum. |

Did you try uninstalling/re-installing Acid and Media Manager AFTER having installed the .NET framework? Mario |

If I uninstall and reinstall, will I lose any work I have done in Acid? |

OK...I've done all the steps recommended. Uninstalled everything, reinstalled in the suggested sequence. No go. I still get the very same message "Media Manager failed to initialize, this function will not be available". I got no error messages on install. Any other suggestions?? |

How long has it been since the system's been formatted? (Similarly, how clean was the Dell (in terms of what was installed) when you first received it?) Consider a format. It may or may not help, but it couldn't hurt (other than the time involved) either. I'm not sure if this has been addressed in the MANY threads related to this, but an early step to try (I had a similar problem a while back)--if you go to your Control Panel Add/Remove Programs....go down to "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)" you'll see "Click here for support info." If you click that link, it will give you the option of REPAIRING the SQL Server---might save a lot of you the headache of uninstall/reinstall....it fixed my problems! |

Ok. I've tried everything everyone has recommended. No go. I looked at the error logs in the Media Manager directory and it appears everything goes OK until the last step. The last line of the error log says something like "the database has been stopped by a request by the Service Control Manager". No more lines after that. I don't know where else to go. Does my pc have to be connected to the internet? Is there a particular service or services that must be started for Media Manager to run? I can start Media Manager service without problem. Are there other services that should be running also? Looking for any help at all. I have posted here and sent a request to Sony (nothing from them yet). Thanks, Mitch |

Still looking for some help on this issue. I've gone back and tried all the steps everyone has recommended. Still no response from the Sony support team. |

I had to do the uninstall/reinstall way. The above post may have solved my probs but I needed a fresh install anyway. It was a the push I was looking for... I recently started having a similar problem, on my laptop DAW, with the Media Manager failing to initialize, at start up. I think I maight have had a corrupt SQL or related file or something. Because no amount of uninstalling-reinstalling, of ACID, the Media Manager or the SQL server ever fixed it. I finally just reformated my "C" drive and did a fresh install of XP pro and then the SP1 update. I then selectively installed only those apps and utilities that I have actually used in the past year, in order to get my DAW lean and clean. My "C" drive went from 18.6MB (out of 20GB), to a nice and slim 8.7GB's after I reinstalled my apps. Nothing like a bit of Spring cleaning. Anyway, ACID Pro 5 and the Media Manager are working perfectly now and my laptop is running better than ever without all the extra unnecessary bloat I had accumalated over the years. |

Technical support has a new diagnostic tool for troubleshooting media manager installation and initialization issues. It sounds like you may be a good candidate for it. Also, try using ACID Pro 5.0b which was released last week. |

I downloaded and installed 5.0b and Media Manager now works. Now I have to figure out how to use it. |

Glad to hear it's working for you now, Nubs. Remember to take it slow when learning the Media Manager. You may even want to create a dummy library for the purposes of getting a feel on how the Media Manager works until you get used to it.
