Audio contest

Spot|DSE wrote on 5/11/2005, 9:02 PM
On the VASST site, we've got a new contest, with prizes from Audio Technica. Rules are simple;
Download the audio file, cut it, chop it, twist it, bend it, add music, sound FX, whatever...then re-upload it to the VASST site by June 18th. Users of the site will vote on it. No copyrighted audio may be used in music beds. Acid has a free tool that you can use for scoring. Sony has a great sound library you might want to try some sounds from.

Other rules: Have fun. No relatives may vote for your entry. Last contest, we caught a couple of "iffy" entries in there, hopefully we can avoid that this time.
Submit as .wma file, must be smaller than 500k. We prefer 96 or 64 kpbs files

First prize: Audio Technica 897 Shotgun Microphone.
Second prize: Audio Technica Pro 88W wireless system.

Users of the site determine the winners.

what format should the finished promo be submited in (mp3, wav, wma, etc). And, it it's wma, is surround allowed?
Spot|DSE wrote on 5/11/2005, 9:34 PM
Geez, like THAT's important? :-)
wma file....If you can fit surround in 500k, go for it.

hhmmm, recalling the "theme" of the winner entry for the video contest it might be viable to include something similar audio-wise ???

I'm not sure how you'd carry the same appeal, Gerrie. I'm guessing you didn't listen to the CNN voice over we've put up for folks to download and compete with? It's not quite the same as visualizing Cathy in her very white and sparkly bustier. Then again, maybe Matthew can enter an audio example of Cathy in the contest.

sure did! gunna have to put some effort into it as the last contest showed lots of creativity and ability. Is the vote status gunna be visable this time too? IMO it would be more exciting to not see it until final .

...audio example of Cathy...

Our luck is that her voice would sound something like Fran Drescher (from the TV seriesThe Nanny).

::Our luck is that her voice would sound something like Fran Drescher (from the TV seriesThe Nanny).:::

A Fran Drescher who smokes 5 packs a day.

Or, worse, a Louie Anderson.

Or, absolute worse: Gilbert Gottfried.

Sounds like an idea for an other contest to me ;' )

Hey Garo, contest behavior is the same this time as last. I've kept a list of suggestions from the last one but other priorities have kept me from pursuing them. We had feedback last time from those who enjoyed the interplay of ongoing entering and voting, so it's a bit of a toss-up as to which behavior is preferred.

Just to be clear on the rules:

I assume it's OK to include other voice talent in addition to / playing off of the talent in the original clip?
Spot|DSE wrote on 5/12/2005, 6:33 PM
Of course. As long as you are using that voice file, you can do whatever you want with it. Keep in mind that the community will be voting for it, so....be wary of how far astray you might go. :-)
PossibilityX wrote on 5/12/2005, 6:37 PM
I consider it my sacred duty to go astray! <g>

Now that would be a fun contest...winner gets dinner with Fran Drescher!
Hmmm......

Shouldn't this also be posted in the Vegas - Audio forum?

So Spot - I can take you literally here, " cut it, chop it, twist it, bend it, add music, sound FX, whatever" ?
The original message need not remain intact or even intelligible ? It doesn't have to be something that CNN would run ? :-) David
Spot|DSE wrote on 5/13/2005, 10:52 AM
Correct. Again, the contest is about doing a radio spot....but you might as well have fun with it.

Since entries are coming in, I wanted to bump this. check out what's up there so far.

Spot, Hate to mention this here - but I need to regain access to Vasst.com after having lost my cookies recently (got to quick on the draw with my cookie collection the other day).. My password no longer works and e-mail request for a new pass says it sends but doesn't actually - and a manual e-mail request through Vasst contact info has not replied .. Anyway for various reasons - I'd like to regain contact

There are some great entries in there already, check em' out.
Don't forget to submit yours, winner gets an AT 897 Shotgun mic, courtesy of the folks at Audio Technica.

Hey Spot, where can I find the winning entry for that video contest? I searched for "video contest" on the VASST site and didn't find its home page.
