I am doing a recording session for a very important first time client with potential for regular repeat business. The PC quits recoirding after about 90 minutes. This wasn't a problem for the first set of sessions because the facilitator stopped for breaks at 1 hour 20 minute intervals. Thankfully I have an audio cassette recorder for back up. The quality isn't the beszt but maybe I can tweak the missing ten minutes and the client will not notice. Output from mixer going into Toshiba Satellite Celeron 1.8 ghz/256 meg RAM via M-Audio USB Transit. Sound Forge 7b for recording. Recording stereo 16 Bit 22 hz Hard drive is external IEEE 1394 (firewire). New drive, tested extensively before use. 100 gigabytes free. Defragged Laptop program drive last night after uninstalling SF8. SF 6 is still installed, if that makes any difference. Could the failure be due to the audio input being USB and the output to hard drive 1394? Is it possible SF8 has f***d up my laptop. If so, how do I eradicate it and revert to a clean copy of SF7 or even SF6? I will keep the frum page open and check for advice every fifteen mintes. ALL suggestions welcomed. thank you all in advance! Peter Burn |

>The PC quits recoirding after about 90 minutes Can't help you much: only was wondering why your pc stops recording? No free harddrive space? or perhaps a Windows setting in control panel/power settings? |

If there are any other USB or FireWire devices that are sharing resources, it could cause problems. Still, it shoudn't take 90 minutes for the problem to pop up. USB or FireWire can be finicky, but as long as your system is set up correctly, there shouldn't be a problem. If you were using Sound Forge 7, I doubt having Sound Forge 8 installed would do anything to SF 7 (provided you installed them in separate folders). What happens when it quits recording? Does the recording dialog just go away? Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid Buy Instant ACID by JohnnyRoy and mD! mD at ACIDplanet |

What operating system and HDD file system ? Win9x/FAT32 has a 2GB filesize limit, but you should only be approaching that with 90 minutes, even at 24 bit 48K... ( a bit over 1.5GB I think ) geoff Message last edited on5/5/2005 3:06:25 AM byGeoff_Wood. |

The drives are NTFS. However, the laptop is an Intel Celeron 256 meg RAM, integrated graphics and the external drive is running off a PCI 1394 card. I ended up going with 22/16 bit instead of 44/16 because it had to be stereo and I don't think they are going to notice the CDs are made from low rez. Didn't take any chances yesterday, saved every opportunity and defragged the program drive at lunch time. Job is over and now I need to upgrade my mixer to a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro and get a better sound reinforcement system. My Yamaha board is more tired than I realized. Thanks all, Peter Burn |
