Graphics 16:9

Hi all,
I need to create some graphics still pictures for a customer who ask me a PAL 16:9 DVD (I'm working in European standard PAL system).
I know that pixel aspect ratio in PAL 16:9 is "1:1 (square) 1024x576", so I've create some graphics with this setting, BUT....
Why, when I export a still picture from Vegas 6.0 (PAL 16:9 widescreen setting and preview set to BEST full), the result PNG file is 1048x576?
So, how do I create my still graphics (ex a logo company) files 1024x576 or 1048x576?
Cheers, Max.

The pixel ratio of anamorphic widescreen PAL (DV) is not square (can't tell you the exact value; I am not on my Vegas machine at this time). The industry standard format ist 768*576 (square pixel). DV video itself needs to be 720x576. If you include a still picture that is not anamorphic, it should be 1048x576 and Vegas will do the appropriate conversion, provided you set the project properties to DV widescreen PAL.

Edit: you may want to check out line 4 of the conversion table:

Ro_MAx,
Thank you for immediate reply.
I know the conversion table, I've see it and other goods links such: http://www.mir.com/DMG/aspect.html.

Ok, I must simple create my graphics at 1048x576 with my graphic application (I use Real Draw Pro: www.meadiachance.com) and import in Vegas that will do the appropriate conversion.

Right?

Thank you, again, Ro_max....Max.

Right, 1048x576. As long as the graphics file has square pixels. Some programs (e.g. 3D animation software) can also output anamorphically correct image files (non-square pixels). Sometimes, this can be an advantage because the resulting files are smaller (fewer pixels) and the conversion is done in the program itself (i.e., Vegas has less to work to do). A (single) still image, I also would do in 1048x576 and let Vegas worry about the rest.

YUk! Thank you RO_MAX...again.

The same comcept can be applied to import/export img from/to Vegas and DVD Architet...

Example:

A still picture from Vegas 6.0 timeline (1048x576) imported in DVDA 3.0 to make a dvd menu 16:9 PAL.

Oh, Ro_max, are you a PAL user?

Max.

Yes, I use PAL and most of my recent stuff is 16:9. So far, however, I have not had the need for still graphics at a resolution of 1048x576 because mostly I use motion backgrounds (rendered in Vegas) and text buttons as menus in DVDA.

Any logos I use are animated, so again no stills.
