Subject:Problem in new Cinemascape sample cd?

I just received the discs..there are a few obvious spikes..clicks..on the second cd , prepared piano folder, phased piano folder, #'s 1, 3, 5 ,7 8, and 10. I haven't found any others ...yet Customer support "unaware" of the problem..so:

anyone here have this problem..actually anyone here bought this thing yet? I 'd like to know if it's the disc or a problem with the samples..if it's the disc, i'd like a new one.

So far though..I am not all that thrilled with the content of either.

I have found more glitches, spikes, etc..c'mon, hasn't anyone here bought this? Or is it that dead in the water?

Wish I would have seen this before I purchased this CD set on Saturday! It's not here just yet but should come this week some time so I'll keep you informed. I'm completely new to ACID having just won an auction on Ebay Saturday getting a brand new never opened or used ACID Pro 5 for $154.99. I was pretty stoked about it so I quickly got online and ordered the Cinescape CD's.

I don't have that collection but I'd like to get it; there are a few samples in ACID Pro's Get Media feature that I liked a lot.

Are you sure it's the collection? I noticed that your profile says your sound card is "crap." (I'm not familiar with that brand. :) )

Hello jpazdan,

We've checked the content of the files you claim have spikes or clips, and none of the files mentioned are problematic. They all sound great. You mention that your sound card is 'crap' on your system specs, so I'm wondering if that could be the culprit? If you post the name of the card and the driver you are using for it that should help us help you. Since these files are all 24bit, if you are using a card that doesn't support 24bit playback natively, the files will need to be dithered for playback and that could be where the problem lies, jpazdan. If you update your support request with those details, the technician can help you.

hmmm..I reloaded the discs and guess what? no spikes, no glitches. I am SO happy!! but a question, O Great Tech Over Mendota (GTOM)....is it possible (as I asked the other fine, knowledgable courteous tech I spoke to on the phone..is it just possible that sometimes when copying files to my hd, that something "happens" to the file? I can't figure out why the first pcopy I did resulted in some glitches on some of the files, while the second pass didn't.

I have a "Soundmax" card in my compaq, with asio4all drivers..it plays 24 bit files fine..it wasn't the card..it was the file itself, as I could see the spike in Audition.

this time, no spike.

As far as the content though..I am still non plussed. YMMV, etc.

Could be something caused the file to be corrupt in the process of copying to your hard drive. (e.g., spikes or sags in power could do it.) Do you have a UPS?

Good to hear it's not doing it this time around.

I have the other two James Johnson sample discs, and they are among the most useful in my collection. Listening to the sample loops for Cinemascape on GetMedia and the Sony site suggests more of the same, so they should be just as good.

What were you expecting? Sure, there is no pumping techno, but that's not what it is for. Did you listen before buying?

PS When I have some spare cash, I will be laying out for this library.

I got mine in the mail today and listened intently for the problem your speaking of but my untrained ears did not hear anything that sounded like it should not be in there. Some great stuff on there for sure! Now hopefully ACID Pro 5 arrives tomorrow!
