Subject:Tracking VSTi effects in ACID Pro 5?
Date:4/29/2005 8:35:28 AM

Hi,

With track FX on ACID you can manage to modify the comportment of volume, pan, resonance, etc over time... Is it possible to do such with MIDI VSTi or VST effects ?

For example, i would like my battery part (midi) to evolute in my song and not play the same thing over time .....i mean, i sure can change the patterns, but i want to change the parameters of the beat, etc. Just like the parmeters of resonance etc in the track FX panel.

if anyone knows how, could you tell me ?

thank you by advance,

regards,
carmellose sodique

Unfortunately, the only way to change MIDI VSTi parameters in ACID is to use MIDI Controller data. You can input this information via the MIDI Piano Roll Editor.

hello,

thanks for the reply,

that obviously sucks. Do you know what kind of input should i use to control mid data ? Are there other software where you can actually control midi data ?

You have to manually look up what Continuous Controller information the VSTi responds to and then send that. I’m not sure if ACID will record it live from your MIDI Keyboard or if you can only input via the MIDI Piano Roll Editor. I assume you can record this live but I’ve never done it. If I need to control VSTi parameters via MIDI, I use another application.

Yup, SONAR allows you to insert MIDI envelopes to control CC data but you still need to know what control information to send. Tracktion actually allows you to insert an envelope for the VSTI parameter you want to change by name. So you can actually insert a Filter Cutoff Frequency envelope and control the filter frequency (and other parameters) by changing the envelope on the track. This is what I use when I need to automate VSTi parameters. Tracktion can ReWire with ACID so its very easy to use both together.
