Sound Out of Sync

Whenever I 'Open Copy in Audio Editor' of the video's sound track, the resulting wav file becomes out of sync when brought back into Vegas. This happens on the way out of vegas 100% of the time. I have tried many audio editors including Sound Forge with identical results. No editing or re-saving of the file was done - just closed the editor. Vegas re-detects peaks and is out of sync. If I use the built in sound chip on the motherboard I get a linear type of out of sync that gets worse the farther into the video you go. It is out by about .5 seconds after about 50 minutes of video. If I use a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 as my sound card, the beginning and end of the same video are in sync but the middle is out by the .5 sec. I get the same results in W2000 or XP Pro. The same results are found in Vegas 5 or 6. As you can imagine, this makes any creative editing of the soundtrack impossible and Vegas next to useless. Anybody have an explanation or better yet (dare I hope) a fix?

The soundtrack sync on the original video is perfect.

Thanks.

what format is the original video?

The original is mpeg-2, 720 x 480 6M/sec as captured by Pinnacle MovieBox USB. Only their software can access the hardware or I would have tried with Vegas. Vegas can see the device but cannot open it.

Check to see if you are swlitching form 44.1 to 48 k hzs without realizing it. I have used open copy in Sound editor with no sync problems. Note, Sound Forge is saving a copy of the edited file with a copy name.

I had the pinnacle moviebox usb and quickly returned it for a refund - all audio was out of sync with the video in vegas. Without any edits or processing at all - just put it on the timeline and play or render it.

It also crashed my system from time to time.

My experience with Pinnacle consumer products has been terrible - I've returned every one I've tried. They all had audio/video sync problems - completely unusable. How can they sell this stuff? Possibly they audio/vid sync would have been OK in studio, but I was only using their boxes for capture and using Vegas for editing.

I only buy canopus now. Costs more but always works great.
