How are you set up for recording vocals? When you're recording, do both monitor meters move in the recording dialog window?

When you record in sound recorder are you creating a mono file?

My guess is that you have a stereo mic jack on your computer and you are plugging in a mono mic. This would send signal to only the left channel in a stereo recording, but a mono recording would play back equally through both speakers.

Your voice is a mono instrument and so you should be recording it in mono. When you push the Record button or Ctrl+R, at the bottom of the Record dialog there is a dropdown box labeled Record device: you want to select the option for your mic input that says (Mono, Left Channel). This will use the left channel as the source and record a mono wave. This wave will play out of both speakers.
