Subject:Acid 5.0 is very slow for me compared to 4.0

I downloaded the trial on my computer (then sent the exe it from my comp to a friend on the same subnet). My computer is faster than his in every way, but when I run Acid 5.0 trial, it takes forever to load (Sony Media Manager doesn't successfully load, it says failure to initialize or some such), when I click the Record button, the computer freezes for 5 seconds, then goes to white screen for 5 seconds, then unfreezes and the record window pops up. If I click cancel, it does the same thing again, freezes 5 seconds, white screen, then unfreezes. On my friend's computer, it runs completely smoothly, so I know the problem isn't in the trial i downloaded.

I have a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 1 gig ram, and a Soundblaster Audigy Gamer. I just downloaded the latest drivers for the soundcard. Could it be the soundcard? I can have Acid 4 and 5 running and I can quickly load it up and click record and the record box pops up instantly on 4. I defragged and everything, my computer is generally fast with any program.

Has anyone else heard of this problem? I'd like to get 5.0 but it'd be nice to know what I'd have to to fix it (buy a new soundcard, get new ram, I don't know anything about computers).

Thanks fellas.

I’ve never experienced a delay when pressing record. Peter could say for sure but I would guess that ACID is accessing the sound card getting ready to record and perhaps this record initialization is what’s taking so long. I would definitely update your soundcard drivers to the latest levels and see if that helps.

Also, if your motherboard has built-in sound, make sure its disabled in the BIOS. This will eliminate any problems from a sound chip that you’re not using anyway.

Did Media Manager ever install successfully? Try and uninstall both ACID and Media Manager, and then delete the folders related to them (if they still exist after uninstalling. ("C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager", "C:\Program Files\Sony\ACID Pro 5.0" and "C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 5.0")

Re-download the trial and install. Could be possible it was corrupted during download.

No Media Manager never installed successfully, it gave me some failure to initialize error, but I read that if you ininstall the trial you can't uninstall then reinstall it on the same computer.
I thought the trial I downloaded might be corrupt, but I transferred the same trial I downloaded (burned to a CD) to my friend's computer and it worked perfectly.

thanks,
Tobus

Not too sure about trials myself and whether or not they automatically expire should you try to uninstall and reinstall.

Maybe something got in the way during installation? Did you try what the KB suggested concerning apps running the background?
