Hello again,

I was thinking about the fact that Europ's market is a little bit underestimated. Maybe that translations would help you sell more overseas.

I've graduated a litterature degree in High School, so I'd be a serious translator of Acid Pro if you gave me the chance to do so.

I'm sure a Spanish, German and Italian translations of your software would be welcomed too for your European customers.

I mean I can do this for free, on my free time, seriously.

If you don't care, then it's okay, we're all doing fine with the english softwares (but I know many users are "allergic" to it).

It’s not just a matter of translating the text, but what happens when a small English word gets translated into German and grows twice it’s length so that it no longer fits in the same screen space? National Language Translation can have a drastic effect on GUI design. ACID would also have to be NLS enabled to begin with. All of the strings must be in string tables. Routines that concatenate and manipulate strings cannot be used because they are not NLS and Double Byte enabled. All strings that need concatenation would require using NLS sensitive format substitution routines instead. If the code isn’t NLS enabled from the start, doing the language translation is the least of your worries (and expense).

From my past experience, it may actually take a major rewrite to make an application NLS enabled. Would Sony be willing to rewrite all of the GUI code and potentially introduce lots of new bugs in the process? How do you make your money back (since your English customers would gain nothing and perhaps loose because the interface must be stretched to accommodate the longest translated string)? Would users be willing to pay a lot more so that ACID could be translated? I don’t think so. It’s probably not worth it financially.

Ow I see... Then you're right.

We don't care about europ, and they don't buy Sony's software that much anyway !

But I'm sure they know what to do to gain more market. They'll certainly release a rewrite only for the translated softwares, and keeo the non-translated intact (that way, no one loose).

They should've been more clever and link the whole language pack in a xml file or something like that (as they seem to have earn knowledge in .net framework technology).

I didn’t mean to imply that the Sony/SoFo software isn’t NLS enabled already. Sorry if my post sounded that way (‘cuz when I read it now it sort of does). I was just pointing out that there is more to NLS translation than simply translating the text. Having gone through this myself it can be a lot of work. I’m sure the Sony code is NLS enabled and as new markets open up, they will complete the translations and offer them in those countries.

OW well, NLS enabled, or XML remote script... Whatever they have, that'll be great

Well, hopefully they'll at least thank you for the rather generous offer.
