Hi, I wanted to check out how much I could load my processor on my PC laptop Toshiba 3.06 Ghz. So, I started a new session in Acid 5.0 and I was loading about 4 Reaktor VST plug ins, 2 Stylus RMX, etc... I worked with a 8 bars loop. All patches in all soft synths were "drum machines" in sync. While the synths played I was monitoring, making new tracks, drawing in Acid. It worked OK for a while, but then suddenly, all Reaktor sounds stopped playing. When I looked at the plugs, I saw that the patches were all gone!! So, all I've got was the Reaktor plug ins without any patches at all, waiting for me to load one... Sometimes, the computer will crash, also. For a while I didn't know if this has something to do with my entire PC configuration: XP home, only 512 RAM, 4.800 hard drive, etc... I am also new with PC's and not at all in control (I use to work with Mac ). Also, my desktop PC (a Fujitsu Siemens) seams not to have this problem... But now (also after having similar problems with Fruty Loops and Reaktor on my laptop), and realizing that basically, nothing else is making any real troubles, I tend to believe that something is wrong with the Reaktor plug in. I was thinking about reinstalling Reaktor, but first I thought it may be a god idea to se if someone had such problem and have a solution, or something... Thanks in advance /P. |

You'll probably want to try uninstalling and reinstalling both Reaktor and ACID. If that doesn't work, also consider what's running in the background as far as programs go. (Are there any icons running in the Systray in the lower right? Close them if possible.) Try also not loading any programs at startup. Press the Windows logo key plus R on your keyboard. Type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the "open" field and press Enter. Click the "Startup" tab and click the "Disable All" button. Click OK and restart. (Note that some programs are annoyingly persistent and may put themselves back in the startup list.) There are more tips I can suggest, but these are just to get you started. Thanks for answering mD! Having different problems with my laptop, I decide "to do something", so...: I did a back-up of my system on my FW Maxtor hard drive. Than I use the Toshiba "recovery" DVD to start my system from scratch. It went OK, except the fact that I've got the same problem like before: restart does not respond properly. The computer turns black and it hangs. So I have to turn it off / on manually. (Getting, of course the warning: "you turned off your computer in a wrong way..."). This, and not (always) being able to do system restore, was a "bug" I had already when I bought my laptop. Many times, after installing new programs that require restart, my laptop hangs like above. Than, I realized that after recovery, I had only one drive (C). I mean, when I bought this laptop (new from the store!) it has 2 partitions (C and D). I tried to find some utility for initializing the hard drive and make partitions, but I couldn't find it. I called tech support (Sweden), but they could not help !!!???. But they were awere of the fact that the recovery makes only one partition. And the guy I talked to keep on saying: "I am sorry, but I don't know how to help you with this" and "It's really a shame that you cannot get the same configuration when you use recovery DVD..., etc., etc...". Great help )):- I would like to have only one partiotion, but I guess I need two if I want to restore my old system from the Maxtor HD. Right? I have to say that I am very disappointed with the tech support in Sweden generally! I had some issues with a LaCie DVD burner and iDVD for a while ago. While the Swedish guy was only guessing (on my account), I've got finally the real help (over the net) from LaCie USA (!). That's way I am not so happy about the idea of living back my laptop to the store - for checking. It may be some stuff I could fix myself. With your help, guys! I am not so much in to PC's and XP. But, maybe with a bit of guiding... Like BIOS update. How to do it ? it will help? etc... Anyway, after recoverying I installed both Acid and Reaktor and it looks like they work well. So, it may be something wrong with my old configuration after all. Still, my laptop needs some help generally... Grateful for any tip! If you want to repartition your hard drive into two drivers, get a copy of Partition Magic. It will allow you to take some (or all) of the remaining empty space on your C: drive and make a D: drive out of it. ~jr |

In addition to what JohnnyRoy said, I'm having a tough time finding any support files (like BIOS updates) for that particular laptop model. You might want to give them a call to find out if anything is available in the first place. (Note that doing a task such as updating a system's BIOS can be risky; you could hose a system if you're not careful. You could also risk voiding a warranty if one still exists. Be sure to ask.)
