new sony burner not recognized?

I purchased a Sony DRU-720A dvd burner and used with very limited success in a 'Pyro' external firewire enclosure. Nero 6 worked but only at very slow burn speeds, and dvd architect recognized the drive but would fail in the process of the burn.

I returned the drive and now have a Sony DRX-720UL external firewire burner and this works fantastic... BUT DVDA 2.0 not only doesn't recognize the drive but locks it up for any further use on the system (drive disappears from explorer) requiring me to unplug the drive, power cycle it, and re-attach to the system.

I've downloaded the latest 2.0b update as well as the JY03 firmware for the drive with no change.

A problem was recently discovered with a few Firewire burners in our apps. This particular drive supports USB 2.0 as well. Try connecting the drive that way and see if the issue clears up.

I should add that this issue has been fixed in DVDA 3.0.

Thanks.

My VAIO laptop doesn't have usb2 built-in... I guess I could try the USB1but really I bought the firewire burner because that's the superior interface.

I will continue only 'preparing' with dvda 2, but it actually locks up the DRX-720UL as soon as dvda is launched even if I don't try to actually burn anything. Right now I have to disconnect the burner and reconnect after I'm done in dvda2.

That's great that it's fixed in dvda 3, but are there plans to support this sony burner in the sony dvda 2 software? Also I'm running it all on a sony vaio laptop?!

Would be super cool to have it all working together but maybe I'll have to take the sony burner back for a memorex!
