Subject:Media Manager Issue with Vegas 6

When I installed ACID 5 and started the app I was told that the version of Media Manager was invalid. This is new since I installed Vegas 6.

Anyone else notice this and find a workaround?

Figured out a solution. I installed ACID 5 after I installed Vegas 6 which probably caused ACID 5 to not build the database schema it needed.

Solution:
1. Uninstall Media Manager 2.0 using the Control Panel.
2. Re-Install ACID 5.0 and the Media Manager from that install.

Now it seems that both Vegas 6 and ACID 5 work fine with the Media Manager (at least it looks fine from both applications)

If I missed something that is an issue let me know.

Yes, there is an issue with Vegas 6, ACID 5 and Media Manager: Vegas 6.0 installs Media Manager 2 but ACID 5 is looking for the older version.

These steps
1. Install Vegas 6.0a (which will install MM 2.0)
2. Install ACID 5.0a and immediately run it to try it out
Get error message "The Media Library XYZ has a newer format that is not supported by this version of software."

The fix is to run Vegas at least once and then re-run ACID.

Your fix, run the old version of MM, also works. Try reinstalling Vegas to get MM 2 up and running again -- there are a number of improvements and new features. We do recommend backing up your libraries when you are prompted to do so...just in case you need to return to the old version of MM sometime in the future.

I mentioned ACID 5.0a specifically. This is the version that should be used with Vegas 6.

Suzan

I should have said that you will not see this problem with ACID 5.0b: it installs MM 2 and so doesn't try to look for MM 1.

SCS - ACID5b ETA? - Shall I wait to install V6a until I get ACID 5b?

TIA

Is Acid 5b appearing soon? Are there any noticable differences between the two media mangers?

Thanks,

Chris

"Shall I wait to install V6a until I get ACID 5b?"

Probably a good idea – that is unless you want to deal with the workaround hassle described above.

Yes, there are a bunch of small additions that are really nice. There is a NOT EQUAL TO operator so you can find all the media that does NOT match the search criteria. When you do a search that has more than 1000 hits (or whatever you set your limit to in the prefs) a link appears that you can press to override and see all the results. (nice) There is a thumbnail view so finding video and still images is easier (more for Vegas than ACID). There is also a push-button view for the tag tree called a “palette”. You can create you own media palette with any tags you want as the buttons. There are probably some others that I can’t remember right now. Overall its a nice upgrade for the Media Manager.

I wasn't clear -- the workaround is easy: use Vegas at least once.

If you install Vegas 6.0a then ACID 5.0a all you need to do is open Vegas (perhaps create a library or two so you have more to check with than just the default). When I install a new program, I want to try it immediately, so I'd naturally open ACID asap. That's the mistake: open Vegas sometime after you've installed ACID. It doesn't matter if you've tried ACID or not.

In RG's case, install Vegas 6.0a, there sholud be no trouble.
