Subject:Keyboard mapping problem

I've always wanted ctrl+f to be paste to new. So with SF8 the first thing I wanted to do was make it do that.

PROBLEM:
No matter how many times I set up ctrl+f to be paste to new it still acts as paste to crossfade. ctrl+e is still paste to new.
It doesn't matter what I do.

Bug?

The keyboard prefs dialog is a little tricky, but you can do this. I think the problem is that the command exists in both global and data window contexts. In the Keyboard prefs page:

1) select Global context
2) find and select Edit.PasteToNew
3) click in the "Press new shortcut keys" box and hit Ctrl+F
4) click "Assign"
5) now switch to the Data Window context
6) select the existing Ctrl+F ( Edit.PasteCrossfade)
7) click "Remove"
8) click "OK"

Seems to work for me.

It's nice to hear an admission from you guys about this! I don't want to be sarcastic, but that's an understatement! The keyboard prefs dialog's a bit of a mess, very unintuitive and not what we've come to expect from SoFo/Sony. For example, there's no obvious way to clear the shortcut keys entry box; from trial and error, pressing 'shift' seems to do the trick. Very odd though. Generally the whole thing feels lacking in logic... like our good friends at Steinberg coded it or something :-o

I was very surprised to see the same keyboard preferences code from Vegas 5 being ported into both Acid 5 and SF 8. It's seriously lacking, so surely it should have been tweaked before it was rolled out to all the apps? Seems like an odd decision to me anyway...

Thanks Sonic. I see how this is meant to work now.

I second that. Very unintuitive and confusing. Took me a while to figure it out, and I'm not even sure if I get it completely.
