Vegas 6 Editing powerhouse beefed up, especially under the hood
Bursting out of the gate at NAB is the new Sony Vegas 6 ($600, upgrade from Vegas 5, $200). Major new features include improved HDV editing including 24p, enhanced multiprocessor support for faster render times and nested projects which can be used on the timeline as if they were any other file. Add to that the ability to down-rez and up-rez from and to just about any resolution, and you have yourself an outstanding new version of an application that was already great to begin with. Here’s our special pre-NAB sneak preview, straight from the Sony headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin.

weet. This is going to be an awesome release. Props and kudos to Sony for continuing to involving the product line instead of sitting on it like most companies do.

I didn't read anything about render to Flash video...hope it's in there somewhere.
SHTUNOT wrote on 4/15/2005, 3:57 PM
Wow...Vst fx support and tape style audio scrubbing was it? God I hope that there is more not being advertised. Being a video site I can understand why he didn't spend time with audio but now I'm really nervous.

Spot...Since most of the video updates are "out of the bag" can you post ALL the audio feature upgrades?

RATS! I don't see render to .swf??????

As an audio-only user, I'm well with you SHTUNOT. What the hell's going on here? You're damn right... if they are the only 'audio features' then we've got some serious problems...

I am sure there is more but what else would you need that you couldnt do in Acid or in Sound Forge?
Ben  wrote on 4/15/2005, 4:36 PM
Please take a look at the last few weeks of the Vegas Audio forum... and review your history - Vegas was originally an audio-only app, or DAW - Digital Audio Workstation.

Moreover, comparing Vegas to Sound Forge for audio is like comparing it to After Effects for video. Very different beasts.

Ben, I am not ignoring history, but since I never enter the audio forum, thats why I asked what else was needed instead of going there and havign to read a number of posts that could be summed up quickly.

Darn double post.
Nat wrote on 4/15/2005, 4:52 PM
Well, Vegas may have been an audio app in the beggining but this has changed and we all have to live with that... If you're not happy I guess you can take a look at Nuendo or protools..

If you dont own an HD cam is it worth it to pay $600 (more then I bought the program for) for an upgrade ???

Randy : Vegas alone is 600, the upgrade is 200
dcrandall wrote on 4/15/2005, 5:05 PM
Randy,

Where'd you come up with $600 for the upgrade? The article states $200 (and there may also be an early-bird discount as has been the case in previous upgrades)

Several questions:

1) Does Vegas 6.0 also run in Windows 2000 (including capture of HDV with the incorporated Connect HD plugin)?

2) Does the incorporated plugin allow two-stage capture of HDV?
p@mast3rs wrote on 4/15/2005, 5:24 PM
We wont know the answers until at least Monday. I would assume this will force the XP issue as Cineform plug requires SP2 for XP as I dont see how they could get around it for use in W2k.

Sorry, no comments, even though you're seeing these articles.
Can't comment til Tuesday.
p@mast3rs wrote on 4/15/2005, 5:26 PM
Why Tuesday? Arent they announcing it on Monday?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 4/15/2005, 6:51 PM
Hmmm... right now the only reason I wouldn't upgrade is because of XP. But, I belive last year the revews said that they dropped Win95/98/ME support and this one didn't say a thing.

Maybe a good sign?

I didn't see anything about the (hopefully!) improvements/additions to DVDA.

I don't understand all this "audio angst" over Vegas 6 pre-release news.

1. You don't have to buy EVERY upgrade.
2. Surely Sony marketing is reserving some key features to release at NAB - no need to blow their wad prematurely.
3. Surely you'll take a grain of salt with the "lack of audio features" that a DV (digitial VIDEO) website chose to talk about.
4. Even if Vegas 6 is primarily a "video-guy" upgrade, maybe you'll remember this thread from a year ago when the video guys had angst and the audio guys (Rednroll, Ben, Spot) were crowing about what a great upgrade (finally) Vegas 5 was.
http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=272207
5. See point 1.

Me? I'm too stupid to be a "video guy" or an "audio guy." I'm just a guy who happens to like Vegas. Will I upgrade from V5? See point 1.
