PS : I just felt this one requiered a new post. Here's JohnnyRoy's :

Fadengo > Ok, now another issue quite odd, related to this thread : Ghost notes

Jr > yes, Yes, YES! This is the most annoying thing. I thought perhaps this was a problem with my MIDI interface but I’m so glad someone else is experiencing this. Sometimes the ghost notes are several bars AFTER I stopped playing. So I’ll play for 4 bars and I’ll get a 12 bar MIDI track with ghost notes out in bars 10, 11, 12.

I don’t have GigaStudio and it happens to me without using ReWrire. Just simple MIDI recording will cause it but there is no way to get a reproducible test case although it seemed to happen more with Mr. Ray 2 plug-in for me. Like you said, you just have to record for a white and wait for it to happen. And yes, the ghost notes sometimes have a melody that matches the parts you’ve already played. Most strange!

It happened several times when I was recording the MIDI chapter in the new VASST Introduction to ACID DVD and I had to stop taping the DVD and start all over. It is a very aggravating bug.

Ow thanx the lord ^^ ! I'm not the only one in the arena fighting with ghost notes.

I used this noun because... Ehm.. Ok don't make fun on me on this one.
In my house I've been experiencing strange things (TV turned on just after having finished an online test which subject was "Do you believe in ghost ?").
So the first time it happend to me I jumped out of my chair (and dropped my precious Sony7506). I looked at my midi controller for a moment... Then looked back at the Midi file created and said out loud "You don't know how to play piano, you just stick around with 2 notes". That's when I realized it was quite similar to my Battery midi riff. I felt really stupid. Hopefully I was alone for this session ^^.

That was for the stupid story. Now It doesn't seem to be related to GS3, neither to Rewire (as far as we know, so not sure). But I have a song pretty much ghost note friendly I think so.
It's loaded with both Reason and GS3 instruments linked to midi files of course. With some VSTi.

What infos do Sony need to find this one out ?

I've seen this problem many times also. It's always been at the beginning of the MIDI file for me. I used a lot of MIDI in version 4 and never saw it. It kind of looks like stuck notes from the beginning of the file until the point I start playing, then it's fine.

Ok, so it seems that we're not alone in the business.

To SonyPCH : I tryied but I couldn't reproduce the bug. I know it's especially happening with multi output VSTi (NI Battery, Kontakt, etc...). I'll get back as soon as It happens to me again.

This Ghost note issue happens more frequently when using Rewire (with Reason, or GigaStudio). Indeed, it writes notes at the beginning of the midi file that you can't see or select, except with a CTRL + A.

The other crazy ghost note I've experienced seems to be Acid's engine metling every midi file in, when recording a new one.

Let us know if you found that out Sony ! Or tell us what infos you need to help you out on that one.

I don't know if this is ghosting or not but I just had an annoying midi problem. Usually when recording midi I set up loop playback and record playing until I get it right. I then highlight the correct notes copy them and then select and delete all and re-paste to the beginning of the midi track. I then have a correct midi track that will loop - or rather I did. I just had a midi track that would only loop according to the full length of the original recording. So I had 4 bars and then a big gap, then 4 bars and a big gap. I couldn't work out what was going on until I examined the list editor. There I discovered five pitch bending events. I've no idea where these came from. After deleting them the track looped as it should - 4 bars followed by the same 4 bars. Has anyone one else had extra events appearing like this? My set up changed recently - I wonder if it could be anything to do with that? I now have the external keyboard running into a Roland UA-100 which is connected to the computer by USB.

Thanks,

Chris
