Subject:Correct Settings for Auto Trim/Crop

Hi,

Using SF7.0a, I have ripped 1 track from a sample CD and want to automatically trim/crop the 20 or so individual samples contained in it. There is around 0.6 seconds of digital silence between each sample.

I have tried both presets (Phrase concatenator 1 and 2) and some custom settings for the "create regions" function but at least half of the regions created have their start-point mid way through the silence.

What I want to achieve is all regions aligned to the start of the individual sounds so extracting these gives me immediately usable data for a sampler (no additional start-point editing required).

I'm I misunderstanding what this feature should do or can someone suggest the correct settings I should use?

Cheers
Rob.

I am interested in how this is done also.

In my case I have a single file of 20 bass sounds, with 1.1.0 meaures of silence between each sample. I want to auto region so as I can save each sound as an individual file, perfectly cropped.

Seems like it should be a popular enough task. The auto-region settings don't make it obvious as to how to achieve this though.

I think I can answer my own question ...
Use auto trim/crop "remove silence between phrases (creates regions)" for the whole sample, with 0ms fade in and out.

(so not the auto-region function at all!)

This was the very first thing I wanted to try in SF8 and it does not seem to work at all.

It seems to keep about .05 seconds of silence in between the regions even with remove silence between phrases and 0 fade in/out settings.

Anyone found a way?

Also tried to trim the start and end silences in the resulting clips and that doesn't seem to work either.

Played with different Attack/Release settings too.

It's the same in SF6.

There was a report of this problem 4 years ago which mysteriously disappeared into 'private e-mails'.

The best workaround I have found so far tonight is to use Auto Region, set all parameters to their minimum and check 'Use release point for end of region'. You still need to manually remove some regions.

Even though I have SF8, I still use the freeware WaveKnife for this job.

Well, that's exactly what I used in the end.

Is it worth upgrading to SF8? The batch functionality is an attractive addition but in amongst the tumbleweed here I notice that it's not a highly regarded release.

And if some of the core processes don't actually work, what's the point of batching them?
