OT - so who's going to NAB

vicmilt wrote on 4/11/2005, 7:18 PM
I've been in this business for over 30 years... and I never went to the NAB - generally out of town or shooting.

This year I'm not only going - I'll be teaching a couple of courses and sitting in on a panel (Field production) -

I love this site... AND a bunch of you guys :-))

so who's going to be there, besides me??

We'll be there, look for the fat old fart with a beard.

Bob.

[edit]
Sadly it doesn't look like I'll be making it to any of the postproduction gigs, I looked at the pricing structure and it's a bit rich if there's only one or two things you want to go to. I'm certain the value is great if you make full use of the ticket but...

Looks like I'll be there at least a few days ! Realy looking forward to meeting some of you folks !

Ray is being modest. He's a presenter at the Post Production Conference.

I'm there. Last year I just flew in for the day (cheap flight from phoenix) to attend the Vegas 5 stuff, this year I'm spending the week.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas---except for technical info that all of you guys will certainly supply us with.

I’ll be there. This is my first NAB. Looking forward to meeting some of you on Tuesday night. (for me it feels like going to a high school reunion. Instead of not seeing people for 20 years and wondering what they look like, you’ve never seen some of these people and wonder what they look like) ;-)

And don't forget... even those of you who are not going to NAB... you can still GO TO NAB..... courtesy of the SCVUG and VegasEditors.com

Looking forward to meeting you all there (who are going to NAB)... and also to all of you who will be "watching".

Wasn't being modest Spot, just didn't want to give anyone a reason to stay home. =P

I'm going. Be there Sun-Mon-Tue.

I'm wondering if anyone has a link on the NAB site or anywhere else to some info on Badge Pickup. I'd like to pickup my badge Sunday afternoon but can't find the Where/When at www.nabshow.com.
rs170a wrote on 4/12/2005, 6:42 AM
I'll be there Sun. - Wed. After 30+ years in televison, this is my first time as well.

To InterceptPoint about badge pickup. If you pre-registered, you got a confirmation email. In it, it said:
"In the event you do not receive your badge prior to the show, bring this confirmation to an onsite registration location in Las Vegas. Just scan the barcode at any Express registration counter and your badge will be printed and waiting for you at badge pick-up. Valid photo ID will be required."
You can also try going to https://ww4.expocard.com/nab051/lookup/ and filling in the necessary info.

Thanks for the reminder. I checked out my e-mail and the message was there. I also called the NAB info number and was advised that there is no badge pickup on Sunday. Registration opens "somewhere" in South Hall on Monday at 7:30.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [6]

I'm going Sat night thru Wed morning and I'm brining a FCP buddy along for total "reprogramming." We attended college together and now he works for the university of Maryland as a program director. As a matter of fact, his work is footing the hotel bill, ironically enough for him to attend some FCP training, but I'm planning on dragging him to the Vegas 6 reveal. He's already shown some interest and would be most impressed with Vegas as a DAW if nothing else.

I've only been active on this list a short while, but it would still be pretty cool to meet with you guys on Tuesday night. I can only assume that we will all enjoy a few stiff drinks... as it seems most editors do.

See ya there!

-Jeff

p.s. Perhaps a bit of gonzo journalism is called for. I'll volunteer as the first intrepid reporter in attendance.

You'll not miss it. It's in the north side of the south hall, BIG area, be prepped for very long lines. Bring a sleeping bag, camp there on Sunday night. :-) (they won't let you, but it is much like getting concert tix with the long lines)

re: Long Lines

Yikes. I was hoping that the barcode scheme would speed things up this year. Do you remember if they had that in place in 2004?

DGrob wrote on 4/12/2005, 8:03 AM
Monday - Thursday. Gotta seat for the free Sony "new features" for Vegas and DVDA on Wednesday pm. Wouldn't miss Tuesday night for a free Adobe Suite or nuthin'. HDV! HDV! HDV! Huraahh! Darryl
Spot|DSE wrote on 4/12/2005, 8:26 AM
Yes, they did have bar coding last year. And the year before. It's just the sheer number of people. 110,000 or so...divided between 3 buildings.
If you preregistered, you should have gotten your badge in the mail, no?
