Subject:SF 8 Flash Import

The What's New documentation says:
"Macromedia Flash (.swf) format importing. (ActionScript, motion video, and audio are not supported.)"

Has anybody gotten this feature to work? There's nothing in the documentation. All of the swf files I have tried to open are either a funny color or they simply won't open. The ones that do open show up in the thumbnail window, but they won't play as motion video. Most of the swf files I have were created using the Macromedia Flash 6 editor.

Hi dani,

I get the same problem too. I tried creating a slide show in flash mx with 10 photos. Tried to open the swf (pulished as f6), but the SF reported unsupported format. Then I tried publish the swf as f5 and tried to open in SF, this time SF opened the swf successfully w/o any error. But I could not see my photos. All the frames were just red colored rectangles. Further to this, I presume atleast the rendering the same with the music track to wmv file should be okay. But the result came out as red rectangle through out.

Hope sony support can help us on this.

regards
ramke

Please contact tech support with these issues. I have a feeling they'll want to get more details about the files you are trying to open.

Also, if either of you use ACID Pro 5 (or download the trial), you might want to see if they are broken there, as well.

Didn't even know Acid Pro 5 was supposed to handle Flash. However, I get the same symptoms there.

Just for giggles, I tried opening and playing various Flash files that I downloaded off of various Web sites, like this one. Could open and play those fine in both ACID Pro 5 and Sound Forge 8.

I get the same response of red rectangles in ACid pro 5.0a(bld310). I am just wondering whether I need the flash player 6 for this to work correctly. Current version of player is version 7. For information, in my swf, I never put any action scripts. Only jpg images slide show.

I submitted a Flash movie to support that contained a gif. Their response was: "The file that you have attached is not vector based text, it is a compressed movie which is not supported." That's certainly not what Macromedia defines as motion video. If this implementation of Flash support doesn't even support graphics in Flash files, then it's pretty much worthless.
