What kind of sound card should I use with acid pro? A usb one? Will acid pro automatically recognize the card and all inputs?

How do you change the audio source in a recording?

In acid pro 4.0, is it possible to record files in another format besides a wav file? How do you make the change?

thanks in advance

You should get a pro audio card and not a game card (e.g., Soundblaster, etc.) game cards are optimized for playback and not recording. I would select a PCI card first, firewire device second, and USB device third. If you have a desktop, stick with a PCI card from M-Audio (Audiophile 2496) or Echo (MiaMIDI) on the low end ($99) or an M-Audio Delta series, or Echo Layla, or Gina if you need more inputs. I would stay away from EMU cards as some people have reported problems with the drivers. If you have a laptop, a firewire card is the best choice (M-Audio Firewire 410) and USB is the last choice. While USB 2.0 is fast enough, many USB audio devices are only USB 1.1.

When you press the record button, there is a dialog box that allows you to select from any of the inputs that are available. ACID can only record one stereo or mono rack at a time. So it will see all of your inputs but it will only use one at a time. ACID is not a multi-track recorder. It is only multi-track playback.

No. ACID only records in WAV format which is uncompressed and yields the highest quality. You can render your song to MP3 or other output formats later.

im in the same boat. i tried the m-audio firewire solo. cool device for $199 but it doesn't come with midi (you can expand for more $$.) i returned that card this past weekend and am purchasing the echo gina 3g which is $350, but is pci, has more inputs/outputs and has midi. hopefully that will do the trick. i asked the same soundcard question so find my post where a lot of people gave their input.

hey JR, just FYI, I think the Echo Mia Midi has been discontinued...soon we'll own collector's items!

MIDI is a series of control signals used to control synthesizers and sequencers. Here's a link that might be helpful (dunno, I haven't read it):

I didn’t realize that. The Mia has been discontinued for some time now but the MiaMIDI is still listed on the Echo products page. I wonder what they are replacing it with.
