Subject:Still unable to get past opening screen of Acid 5

I have been trying to load Acid 5 since it's beta stages. The only way I can get past the opening screen is to delete or rename my VST directory. I've tried deleting the VSTs one by one and the problem doesn't seem to be any one VST in particular. It just won't work with them all enabled. I recently did a guitar and acid loops project by renaming my VST directory so that it wasn't available and didn't lock up the program. It worked, but crashed constantly and the audio broke up while I was recording it, though it played back ok. All in all, working without VSTs, with breaking up audio on record, and with constant crashes wasn't worth the hassle. My question is, is it just me and my system, or are other people having the same difficulties with Acid 5? I have fond memories of older Acid versions and I would love to be able to use it again. I'm using the latest version of Sonar for now, but I can't make Acid format loops from Sonar, and to my ears, the time and pitch Acid loop engine on Sonar doesn't sound anywhere near as good as Acid did when it worked. My system is a P4 3.05 in a Shuttle mini system with an Audigy 2 Platinum pro audio card and a Radeon 9000 graphics card and two gigabytes of DDR RAM. Other Sony programs: Vegas and Soundforge work flawlessly and are in constant use on this same system. |

But that opening-screen is so pretty... Well, I'm no expert, but there was a problem (one of many) with the original release of Acid Pro 5 that caused it to scan all your VST's every time it started up. This may be what's causing your computer to hang on that screen. If you haven't gotten the 5.0a update, I would try that, as it did resolve this problem (while leaving several others to fester). |

Version 5a is trying unsuccessfully to read my VST instrument directory as I type this. It will crash in just a second ... yes there it went! Any other ideas? |

> Any other ideas? Yea. Rename your VSTPlugins directory so that ACID can load. Then create a new VSTPlugins directory and slowly add new plugins one at a time. I found that ACID doesn’t work well if the VSTPlugins directory contains both VSTi and VST FX. What I did was move all my VSTi’s to a new directory. So on my PC, all of my VST FX are in C:\Programs\Steinberg\VSTPlugins and all my VSTi’s are in C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins. This seems to work for me. ~jr |

I'll try that. Thanks. |
