Can NOT friggin' wait....
Kula Gabe wrote on 4/11/2005, 4:20 PM
I too can't wait. Even knowing as little as we do, there are at least a few new features that would make my life easier ASAP. I also can't wait to find out what's new in DVDA3. I just hope it will be shipping, rather than just being announced at NAB. There will also be tons of other cool stuff, like this from JVC:

Dont know if its the little kid in me or if I truly dont have much in my life that is terribly exciting. As a father of three kids who spends every waking moment providing care for them, when something like this comes up, I tend to get excited. :0)
Rednroll wrote on 4/11/2005, 4:43 PM
Yeah, I can't wait. The forums willed be filled with screaming lunatics, raving about the feature they expected to see that didn't make it into the release. Plus, further complaints about Sony either making another GUI blunder, or not addressing the "Hello Dolly" look. Then follow, that by a couple more months of screaming of new bugs found and how dare Sony sell them a piece of software without zero bugs. You want a good preview before the release? Stop by the Sound Forge and Acid forums, read a few threads and get a sneak peak. Oh yeah.....counting those days down.

Kula, that camera SURE IS a beauty !
Wow !!!
Yoyodyne wrote on 4/11/2005, 6:36 PM
I am very excited about that JVC - my only fear is that this thing will have the build quality problems that seem to plaugue JVC stuff (at least the stuff I've used)

Dito that

Depending on your market niche, you might want to check out the XDCAM 2/3" offering, to be shown at NAB. Myself, I'd rather go for the more expensive version and be assured I won't be disappointed. The Canon XL1/2 have 1/3 " chips and those cameras, at least in my opinion, are nothing more than prosumer. Anyone who says he had a shoot out between an XL1 and a digiBeta usint and the Canon won is full of excrement. Canons are good for weddings and such but not for serious work, certainly no good here where the winters get to -40.

trolling?
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/11/2005, 10:39 PM
Where's there? Just out of curiousity - why wouldn't the XL1/2 be worth something in the cold, but would be worth something in the heat - may have misread what you wrote, and that wasn't what you meant, but that's how I read it. Just curious, if you know something I don't.

A potentially good call rmack350. Or may just be that (s)he's very particular about their equipment.

(S)He's got a DSR500WS and an XL-1. So there's legitmate comparison power there. I wonder if you got that lousy lense PeterXl - not that I'm saying that the XL-1 at 5K is going to beat a DSR500WS - with a lense that probably is worth more than the entire XL-1 system.

Course, (s)he may just be tired, and enjoy a little flamewar now and then :)

Either way - not just unsubstantiated claims - not that I think anyone would have disagreed with him/her on that.

Maybe a little less.......... antagonistically put next time eh PeterXl?

oh gosh, another camera argument is brewing. Does every thread always have to go off topic into a camera argument? How about we start discussing the need for having a professional monitor in our setup? That one always seems to have the same story plot and ending.
BillyBoy wrote on 4/12/2005, 8:01 AM
You know Red, the little boy comes out in "pros" when it gets near NAB. Happens every year. They just have to have to talk about the latest kick-ass camera, etc.. I haven't commented on the sillness of it all till now, my ten foot pole was in the shop for its annual cleaning so I didn't jab the usual suspects. Trade shows, regardless which one are so full of ....... they should hand out hip boots at the enterance. Been to many in various industries in the past and mostly all I got out of them was sore feet from all the walking around the exhibit floors and once or twice food poisioning from probably some hot dog or something that was probably left over from the past year's show.
jkrepner wrote on 4/12/2005, 8:05 AM
No, no fighting. I agree about JVC's building quality not always being so great, but I tell you what, that new camera looks really cool. It reminds me of a film camera, as in it has a small body, with a large lens. It looks cool, but does it work?

BrianStanding wrote on 4/12/2005, 8:26 AM
Here's one sensible thing: if you look closely, it looks like the JVC camera is using a 6-pin firewire connection. About time! Those little 4-pin jobbies are for the birds!
jkrepner wrote on 4/12/2005, 9:05 AM
Right... 4 pin drives me nuts becuase 9 out of 10 times when I reach into my rat nest of cables, I always come up with the 6pin to 6pin and never the 4pin to 6pin I need.
Yoyodyne wrote on 4/12/2005, 9:13 AM
My problem with JVC is not "does it work" but "will it work 6 months from now" :)
jkrepner wrote on 4/12/2005, 9:19 AM
Totally hit or miss with JVC. I have an old 60lb. professional JVC S-VHS deck (a BRS-844 or something) that fell on a concrete floor. I literally used a hammer and pry bar to unbend the front in order to insert a tape and it continued to work flawlessly. But I've used other gear and have been left without footage due to cameras eating tapes. Go figure?

Kula Gabe wrote on 4/12/2005, 1:08 PM
Just to let you all know, I am not a JVC fanboy, or hater. I just saw the article and though "neat a new HDV cam, that looks pretty interesting". I recently bought a FX1 and love it and am not looking for a change. I just know how some are so into 24p and all that and figured I could share a link. If this is a problem let me know, as I too hate the camera/ monitor/ format/ etc. wars that seem to start so easily. But I do love it when people share info which I find interesting in a positive and constructive way.

Aloha,

Gabe
FuTz wrote on 4/12/2005, 2:31 PM

same here.... I like the **design** of the cam (and the fact you can swap the lens). Can't give any comments about JVC stuff since I've never used it...

PS. : Pmasters: you must keep the title of your thread up to date : YOU submitted that one, act like a "pro", lol :P
p@mast3rs wrote on 4/12/2005, 4:24 PM
Futz, Sorry. Im still new to the "pro" thing lol. But I am sure some person will harp on the pro thing again and again.

P.S. Edited the subject line.
