Huh? Playing a cd track in SF 8 causes lock-up? -Sound Forge - PC

If I play a track on a cd from start to finish Sound Forge 8 locks up. If I hit the "X" button on the open dialogue box several times, the Windows "End Program" box comes up and I have to close Sound Forge. If I play a wave file that is already on my hard drive everything works fine, but it I play a cd track, Sound Forge can't seem to handle it. WHAT? This is supposed to be a professional probram? Sheesh!!!
