Subject:Finding Great Drum Loops CDs?

I've scoured the web for free drum loops, along with checking out the loops that come with ACID. Now I'd like to find some great, acoustic (i.e., real) drum loops on a CD, or CDs. Looking for Rock/Funk/Pop type grooves.

Does anyone have names, prices, links, etc?

Thanks!

Rick

I have 5 CD’s from BetaMonkeyMusic.com and I’m very happy with them. Chris uses a Pearl kit that he records dry so you can add your own effects. He has them very well laid out on the disk so everything is easy to find. It’s all categorized by style and BPM. He has slight variations on the same beat as well as the same beat with/without O/C hi-hat, ride cymbals, etc. so that it doesn’t get boring and he adds intros and endings too. It’s really geared toward composing whole songs.

You can download samples from their web site. If you do plan on getting them, I would buy them from his eBay auctions where he sells them about $10 cheaper than on this web site. I think I got the 5 CD set for $49.

I would imagine that the Mick Fleetwood CD’s from Sony are also very good but I don’t have them yet so I can’t comment on them.

Drumsugar is a great drum CD. Kinda funky. Drum Tools is functional. Try the sample loops. All are sony. Also, peace Love Productions has some good stuff.

Beta Monkey Music's (www.betamonkeymusic.com) stuff is just great - I agree with Johnny. I bought three rock drum loop discs from them about 6 months ago and they are pretty much the only ones I use. I don't think they have every style in the world but for the rock and blues stuff, no question they are it.

They were always helpful too which made my experience with them even better. I plan to get some new ones when I done with my current project.

Another outstanding drum loop library that I've found since then is Smart Loops Pro Drum Works Volume 1. Not only do the drums sound great, but they have a naming convention that is outstanding. They place the drums in directories like:Acoustic Kit
-- Basic + Funk
---- 8ths
---- 16ths
---- Floor
---- Open
---- RideThen all of the beats in those directories share the exact same number. So if you like Basic 8ths 14 (which has 8th note hi-hats) and you want the same beat in the chorus but on the ride cymbal, you just go into .\Ride\Basic 8ths 14 and it’s the exact same beat with the ride cymbal. It makes putting together an interesting drum part that sounds like it was played in one continuous session very easy.

I still agree that BetaMonkeyMusic is a great collection of drums and more drums for the money than any other library.
