Hi all, I am testing out SF 8 and i have found out that they it supports the above mentioned different wav file formats. But they dont seem to be different, atleast not from the technical part of saving. They share codices and save uncompressed files and yield the same file sizes. If anyone of you has any information regarding the three and their differences, i would appreciate. thank all. p.s. mail suggestions or any help: jsagga@gmail.com |

Microsoft WAV is pretty much generic and can be used in almost any application. This is probably the choice you want most of the time. Wav64 is proprietary to SONY. It uses 64 bit headers instead of 32 bit headers and allows files larger than 2GB. It's rare that you'll ever need it, and it probably won't open in other programs. Scott Studios Wav is proprietary to Scott Studios equipment. Unless you know what that is and use it, you'll probably never want to use this format. As you surmised, the data for all three formats is identical. It's pretty much only the file header information that changes between them. |

Doesn't SF8 only save in Scott Studio WAV? Which is the best format to save in before converting to MP3 via LAME? -Keith |

No, Sound Forge 8 saves in all those formats and many more. It will also save directly to MP3 without needing any external converters. |
