Subject:Media Manager Problem

Did a search but didn't see an answer. Have looked into the help file, specifically the "Tagging Media" part, and didn't see it either. I have Acid5 Pro. Sooooo, I downloaded and installed the Sony Loop Data Base. I selected Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples and have everything checked on the Media Manager Options page except "shut down database on exit." I pointed the "add files to the media library" to the folder where I keep my Acid loops and did a search. Found lots of loops ... my questions:

When I select certain types of loops, say orchestral or one shot world percussion, it misses a lot of material than I have.... for example, both of those show 0 matches, yet I have Rock-Pop Orchestra (for Orchestral Samples) and Dragon Dance (plus others, for world perc).

When I change the view and go to "Reference Library" I can check a library i have and it says it is unavailable.... would I like to purchase it. Oddly, in the main window some of the loops show up on loop libraries which the Media Manager later tell me are unavailable.

I'll bite.... what am I doing wrong? I have Acid Pro 5 on my C drive and my loop library on the E-drive. I have all of the libraries inside a folder (cleverly) named Acid Loops.... in the search parameters, I have search subfolders, selected. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but when I transfered the wav files to my harddrive, I left them in their original folders (eg, Dragon Dance is inside a folder called Dragon Dance) and the original folders containing the wav files are intact.

I'm losing it and the help file doesn't seem to be helping. Thanks in advance.

Take Care

It looks as if you have all this but to make sure we're on the same page and that I understand what you see.
0. Back up the library you're using...just in case.
1. Update to ACID 5.0a and Sony Loops and Samples Reference Library (bld 24)
2. Install the reference library and activate it
(MM Options-> Options-> Reference Library - choose Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples)
3. Scanned in LFA Orchestral 4: Rock & Pop (or a folder with it all)
I'm using this library for all examples
4. If you need to scan it in again you will need to be sure "Add files to Media Library" has "All files" choosen and not "New files only (faster)"

You mentioned that you were missing some one shots from Orchestral 4: Rock & Pop.

I scanned in the CD. It's ok to scan in the folder where you keep your loops. You can have multiple loop libraries because as long as we're choosing "Orchestral 4" from the tag tree then we both have 627 loops to start with. I'll add "Orch 4: Rock and Roll" to all this and be sure to have "Match All" selected.
Try these 4 things:
- Select "Orchestral 4: Rock & Roll" from the tag tree. I get 627 loops
- Select "Orchestral 4: Rock & Roll" AND "Orchestral". I get 627 loops. All the loops.
- Select "Orchestral 4: Rock & Roll" AND "Drum One Shots" from the tag tree. I get 35 loops.
- Select "Orchestral 4: Rock & Roll" AND do an Advanced Search for ACID Type: one shots. 35 again.

Do you get these numbers? I'm guessing you don't. What do you get?
Long shot, but do you have any idea what loop(s) you are missing? 3 triangle, 15 timpani, 7 snare, 5 cymbal, and 5 bass.

About the reference library: everything is unavailable from the reference library. It's purpose is to retroactively tag the LFA that came before there was a media manager.

I edited this -- I did not correctly identify Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library in steps 1 and 2

When you say:

which tags are you actually clicking on? The tag that is under Sony Sound Series? Or the instrument/genre related tags under the Audio section?

I'm thinking that you may just be seeing the opinions of our sound developers when tagging the media files (for the Audio section tags).

Sorry to take so long to reply, I thought I had auto notify turned on, but guess I didn't.

I did follow the steps of Sony SCS. When I select orchestral one shots... it tells me I have no media. I got so frustrated I havn't tried anything since I posted this, but I have a couple questions/thoughts.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh
I just open Acid to play with media manager (so hopefully, I could ask some intelligent questions) When I clicked on Drum, one shots, Orchestral I get nothing. When I go to Orchestral, Percussion... I get a ton (many of which are world instruments and as far as I know, not terribly associated with the Symphony Orchestra). However, the aaarrrggghhh, was that in that same tag view where it says "Sony Sound Series" I can now select one of the CDs listed and it gives me all of the loops..... okay, that is a major improvement and convinces me that something is going right. However (yes another however) when I switch to the reference library (which lists all of the Sony CDs, and select one that I have, it tells me I don't have that media would I like to buy it.

In any event, some good progress and I can use the MM in the form it is now. I do have the unenviable task of learning a lot more about tags and seeking what I can do to get the "proper" loops showing up (I know it is just me, but I've never heard the Portland Symphony use a Dumbek!!)

Anyway, making progress.

Thanks
