We attach and detach databases and do some other path manipulations that you won't be able to "fake out" and fool it into using SQL Server on another PC (i.e. it isn't as simple as changing a bit of text in a connection string somewhere). However, we have thought of allowing exactly what you are proposing - having a larger shared media library available for multiple PCs. Extending the media manager to support this would not be too difficult, but some of the security issues may complicate things (not many regular ACID users have DBAs or network admins to configure SQL Server logins, etc.). Would other folks find this useful? Anyone have opinions? Would a simple security model of "users are either full access or read only" be enough granularity?
