Hello

Does anybody know how to use Media Manager with SQL Server (not with MSDE)?
Because I have fulyl functional MS SQL Server available on the high speed computer and don't wish to load local MSDE on my (relatively) slow media comp.

Tnx

The media manager currently is designed to only work with MSDE on the same PC you are running ACID on. We attach and detach databases and do some other path manipulations that you won't be able to "fake out" and fool it into using SQL Server on another PC (i.e. it isn't as simple as changing a bit of text in a connection string somewhere).

However, we have thought of allowing exactly what you are proposing - having a larger shared media library available for multiple PCs. Extending the media manager to support this would not be too difficult, but some of the security issues may complicate things (not many regular ACID users have DBAs or network admins to configure SQL Server logins, etc.).

Would other folks find this useful? Anyone have opinions? Would a simple security model of "users are either full access or read only" be enough granularity?

Not to knock the idea, but it wouldn't do anything to help me. Being able to turn the media manager off and on a bit easier, that would be something to sing about.
