Hello

This is kind of new territory for me. I have SF6.0, LAME, Audiograbber and Media Tagger.

What is the quickest way to convert large quantities of wav to mp3 and be able to pick the K-bit rate?

Also, I tried this the other day using Audiograbber and LAME and found an incompatible file called a cda I think it was.

If you have a licensed SF6, then I believe you can download batch converter and use you SF& serial number to activate it. This will do what you want.

Or you could use Exacty Audio Copy (EAC) with LAME and create MP3s that way... I believe there are even tagging options within EAC.

Ps. EAC is an EXCELLENT way to rip .wav from your CDs (and you can also compress to MP3 within the same step).

The latest version of Nero also does a decent job. You can purchase the additional "mp3 Pro" add-on for Nero if you're interested in converting to mp3 pro (SF 8 does not currently use mp3 pro technology). Nero will go straight from CD to mp3, not creating wavs and then deleting them like CDMaster does. PlayWright MP3 pro is the one I use a lot for large conversion batches.

First of all, one of the best places to ask about anything related to audio encoding, ripping, tagging and converting is Hydrogenaudio at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php . Most of the actual developers of the stuff you're using live there.

Exactaudiocopy is the standard. The tool superior to it may be the Plextools, which only work with Plextor drives.

The current Lame versions can be found at http://mitiok.cjb.net and http://rarewares.org

If you're already lumbered with WAV files you don't want to rip again, your onestop shop to mass converting that to MP3 is a good frontend like Razorlame, together with the most recent Lame version. Razorlame can be found at http://www.dors.de/razorlame/ . Masstagging is best done with Foobar2000(see below), though there are others as well.

If recreating largescale directory structures when converting is your thing, take a look at Frontah, which can take most formats as long as you provide the right en/decoders where it lives. It can be found at http://home.vxu.se/mdati00/frontah/

Foobar2000 is also a good tool, as well as the most practical player I've come across. It can massconvert anything it can play and use the tags found in the source file. http://foobar2000.org is the place to find that. It's easy to name the file too. Foorbar2000 has an extrodinary tagger included as well.
