Mentioned selecting the track, going to the effects menu and clicking remove vocals.

This must have been a differant version. I downloaded the trial version of SF8 to make sure the feature i want works before i dump money into the product.

If anyone knows where this feature would be in the New SF8 or has a link to an earlier trial of SF for me to try the Remove Voclas feature please let me know. Also if this is a plugin i must look for and download or what have you again, please let me know, so i can go and download it.

Tanks for any info you can give.

Process -> Channel Converter -> Stereo to Stereo / Vocal Cut

Prepare to be disappointed. This isn't SF specific; removing vocals from a mix is pretty much impossible for any plugin.

Vocals and/or the mix usually have a stereo reverb effect, so there will be vocal content in the stereo channel. Also, other instruments may be panned dead center. In addition, not all vocals are panned dead center.

You appear to be very right... That is unfortunate... What was that guy i mentioned in here talking about then with the other Plugin i guess it was i wonder...

Hmmm well if anyone else has some software related solutions to this issue i am all eyes. Please let me know... a differant version of Sound Forge maybe what ever the case may be...

Pathological, i think you missed it. David_Kuznicki was joking (or razzing, depending on your point of view) when he wrote that post. It's pretty obvious if you read it in context.

On some recordings you can simply pan the volume all the way to the left or right speaker and the vocals will disappear. I have several recordings that do this. They're called soundtracks or accompaniment tracks. There are plenty of websites that sell them, such as www.karaoke.com .

You might want to check out Adobe's Audition. I was at a WEVA seminar on it last week and the guy created a "kareoke" track very easily in literally minutes. First he dropped the vocals to show us and then for the heck of it he dropped the band and brought back the vocals. He said it does not work on all modern mixes because the engineer them with the vocals scattered across all the channels. He also easily created a suedo 5.1 mix. I'm very impressed with this software....you might try the free download and check it out.

Both of the effects you describe below can be done with the Channel Converter in SF using two of the standard presets.

Well.....there's a lot of history there. Your question gets asked in these forums almost twice a month, sometimes more. I use to reply to them and give snippits of that post you read that obtained to their particular question. Eventually, like a lot of users that visit this forum on a regular basis, we grow tired of replying to the same question. I finally decided, I would put everything together in a summary post so when the question comes in I can just post a link instead of screaming at them, "Use the Search feature on this forum, you idiot!!!". I'm glad it helped you out, that's why I took the time to write a thorough post regarding this question, so people can better understand why it works in some instances and doesn't work so well in other instances, and more so HOW it works.

Yes, we could all do that with SF if we were able to choose the source track. It just doesn't work with 90% of commercial tracks.

Audition's Vocal Remover works well on some tracks, and lousy on others. I've done quite a few Motown tracks that came out pretty good. Patience is a must. You can also isolate the vocal (with lots of artifacts), but you can hear the vocals much clearer - good for songs that you can't figure out the words to.
