first.. thanks for the update. it has fixed some of my troubles and i gave v5 another try. but sadly its not stable at all on my pc. i cannot use it for more than a half hour without a crash and they are always different crashes when im doing different stuff. therefore i want to list here my error logs and the other bugs i have noticed. 1. sometimes it does play the wrong range when i shortly stop/start the part. means: i mark a region and select looping. sometimes it does just play the part AFTER the loop but it displays as it would play the correct part of the loop. i have also noticed that bug in v4 already. 2. sometimes when working in soundforge (select edit in sf from acid) it does not release the file and i cannot use it when i switch back to acid. that happend now in acid 5 and sf 7 but i had the same error also in v4 from time to time. 3. random crashes ;-( i dont know what it does cause but it does crash very randomly. it stays then on that beeping tone and when i try to start acid again it does reboot my computer and sometimes even show a bluescreen. here you go with the error logs: -> Clicked on create New Song Sony ACID Pro 5.0 Version 5.0a (Build 310) Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) WRITE:0x634CA40 IP:0x77F73AED In Module 'ntdll.dll' at Address 0x77F40000 + 0x33AED Thread: TrackFx ID=0xF8 Stack=0x12C000-0x130000 Registers: EAX=00000000 CS=001b EIP=77f73aed EFLGS=00010287 EBX=00a30000 SS=0023 ESP=0012ced8 EBP=0012cee4 ECX=0634ca40 DS=0023 ESI=03499350 FS=003b EDX=03509ed8 ES=0023 EDI=03509ed8 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 77F73AED: 89 01 89 48 04 75 21 66 ...H.u!f 77F73AF5: 8B 07 66 3D 80 00 73 18 ..f=..s. ok. so here are the news. i installed the new rme driver yesterday and it does somehow help to make acid 5 a little more stable. it does still crash randomly but its not as worse as before. i also did completly deinstall acid 5 and reinstalled it fresh. when it crashes now it does mostly close without an error - just disappears. sometimes it does show an error but closes immediately after so i dont have enough time to copy the error. and it does not even generate en eventlog entry or something.. i tried to notice what im doing when it crashes.. but its all the time different. sometimes i resize the window.. move events.. insert an fx.. doesnt matter it just crashes ;-( here you go with 3 more error i catched. hopefully they will help you to locate the bugs. acid 5 is just rockin!! btw: i filled in my system specs. but here are more details: P4 3.2GHz, 1GB Ram, Radeon 9600, ASUS P4P 800-E Deluxe, RME HDSP 9652 Sony ACID Pro 5.0 Version 5.0a (Build 310) Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) READ:0x5E37749 IP:0x5500F90 Thread: GUI ID=0x6A4 Stack=0x12F000-0x130000 Registers: EAX=05e37749 CS=001b EIP=05500f90 EFLGS=00010202 EBX=00000000 SS=0023 ESP=0012f10c EBP=0175adb0 ECX=06982b30 DS=0023 ESI=0690eba8 FS=003b EDX=0012f15c ES=0023 EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 05500F90: 6B 00 53 00 20 00 4D 00 k.S. .M. 05500F98: 6F 00 6E 00 6F 00 00 00 o.n.o... All of the dumps you have provided have on thing in common: Attempts to access FX inserted on Tracks. What FX are you using on your track? Peter |

hey peter thanks for the quick analysis! i investigated about that and i think the plugin causing this is SpinAudio Roomverb 2.1. i already had troubles with that plugin before, but it did crash even worse and i was able to see the plugin dll in the dump. just before few minutes i isabled all FX on that song and tried to reenable them to see what might causing it. immediately after enabling roomverb acid crashed ;-/ no good.. this plugin is really a nice one. now the question is of course.. is that related to the plugin or is it an incompatibillity with acid? or even my hardware? (not that you might have the answer.. its just what im asking myself :-)) well.. theres another thing i have noticed. in acid 5 the FX button becomes a golden color if the FX is a non-in-place plugin. but it does show almost all plugins as non in place?? for example the sonitus FX's or the T-racks. these are all in-place fx in my understanding.. so whats wrong here? in that particular song about 50% of all tracks are marked golden - as soon i hit play only 1 is golden. and on that one im just using sonitus delay. im even using that plugin on other tracks but there the button stays green. i will investigate further and avoid using roomverb and will post any further incidents here. but i think it has become pretty stable for now! thanks!! |

Are you using the DX or VST version of Roomverb. I also notice they are upto v2.2. Peter |

Is it just me, or can no one change the pitch of a track? I'm trying to use the + and - on the numeric keypad as I've done before, but nothing happens. This wasn't a problem until I installed the 5.0a patch. - Andre |

hey peter i have updated roomverb, but im now thinking that is not the problem. i tried to disable all fx i had on the tracks. i only left ultrafunk delay and i doubt this causes problems. it was always very stable in acid 4. anyways.. same projects do work in acid 4... without any crashes.. this all happens only in acid 5. i opened a new project and tried to record a midi track.. acid suddently disapeared. this happens from time to time.. and if it happens i cant even copy a dump. sometimes acid just closes itself or shows very short the error dialog and closes then. is there maybe a way to enable some debug logging or something? the last project which crashed did not even use any fx so i think the problem is elsewhere. ;-/ |

k-faktor, your issues sound so similar to mine it's spooky...it really is tough to pinpoint what's happening, sometimes it's obvious a plug-in could be the culprit (I have some dodgy ones) but it often happens just while dragging events or nav bars or resizing events or windows. I've been meaning to set-up a project that uses only sony plug-ins, but the EQ is a deal-breaker for me from the get go. I'll suck it up and put one together and see if I still get crashes (you mention in your last post you've already tried it), but it just seems like crashes while scrolling and resizing events chouldn't really have anything to do with plug-in issues. I mean, if I click on a plug-in parameter and Acid crashes, I usually chalk it up to the plug-in, but what happened to the 'robustness' (that overused bit of geek speak) of Acid? Klirrfaktor is dead on that when Acid crashes, you don't get a chance to save your error reports, never mind your project. Acid 4 rarely did that and almost always managed to save my project before it died...Acid 5 seems to have a glass jaw, one little bump and it's down for the count. Plus often times when I reload Acid and attempt to restore, it has me search for all the media I was using all over again to restore, plus all my changes are unable to be undone. Even when Acid doesn't crash, the undo buffer seems unable to handle more than a couple events before it becomes corrupted. (This is most noticeable when doing anything involving cutting and pasting time sections...but has happened otherwise as well). |

thats it yes.. you report very similar problems that im having. im not thinking longer its caused by a plugin - well i do also use some dodgy ones.. for example the t-racks ones. i know there are problems with them on sony products.. but this was all working in acid 4 without any problems! so i doubt its now caused by them.. well maybe the plugin handling changed in acid 5 - but if so, that wasnt a good idea ;-) anyways.. i hope we can track down the problem.. since its happening very often and is disturbing my workflow a lot. |

We have identified a problem related to FX and scrolling -as bizarre of a relationship as that is. Thanks to Chris for the crash dumps! This was the clue that started us on the right track to nail this one down. This fix will be part of a future update. Don't know when this will hit the streets, but it shouldn't be too long. Thanks again to all that help us track this one down. Peter |

Good to hear that Sony. Early on after Acid 5 was released, I reported a similar issue, related to moving things around while using Waves plugins. I wasn't able to reproduce it reliably or give any useful info about what I was doing at the time, so I had to let it go and hope it got fixed somewhere else. Thanks also to K-factor for taking the trouble to post all those dumps - hope it gets fixed soon! |
