Subject:Reason and Live with M-Audio fw410...worth installing?

I just got my FW410 card and included is Live and Reason software. I tried checking out what's the deal with those on internet but because of connections problems or whatever reason the video files for presentations are crapped. So I ask here; since I got Vegas and Acid Pro, is it worth installing this soft' ?
I'm planning to use it with a POD output for my electric guitar and an old Alesis beatbox (MIDI output) too so maybe one or the other software would be worth testing?
I'd like your opinion before investing in time on these free goodies...
Thanks!

I really enjoy Reason Adapted.
Live, I haven't tried yet.

Do you have a midi keyboard? If you do, Reason is a heck of a nice softsynth.

Reason Adapted is pretty limited in what it can do it has a few nice sounds but you can't expand it in any way. It does give you an idea of what the full version of Reason is all about but I found no use for it having ACID. Live Version 2 is very old. I installed them both just to look at them but I’ve never used them since. With ACID and Vegas, I just have no use for them.

I don't have a keyboard and I never tried MIDI in my life. But I'm planning to use it to get brass and strings sounds somehow. I have to find a "MIDI 101 tutorial" somewhere on the net to get started...
JohnnyRoy, when you say "you can't expand it in any way", you mean that one will quickly reach the top of possibilities with the soft' ? Or that the sound customizing (parameters, etc) is soon limited as one tinkers a little with it?

What I meant was that the full version of Reason can be expanded by purchasing new modules to plug into the rack. Reason Adapted is a lite version that only gives you the few modules that are there. You cannot add any. These modules are in no way limiting. You can load new sounds for them, make your own sounds etc. I was just trying to point out the difference between the full Reason and lite Reason Adapted. After all, isn’t that the purpose of the lite version... to get you to buy the full version.

You don’t need MIDI keyboard. You can use the MIDI Piano Roll Editor in ACID to create a MIDI file with the notes you want to play. Then assign that MIDI track to Reason Adapted and you should be all set. It will probably be fine for what you want to do.

If you just want more instruments, might I suggest you get the excellent and FREE Soundfont player rgc:Audio SFZ then head on over to SynthZone Soundfont Resources and spend some time downloading any of the 1000’s of free Soundfonts which include many great orchestral sounds. You will be very impressed with what you will find. I spent a week there one night. You’ve been warned. ;-)

What did we ever do before the Internet?

Hey, Just when I said that Live 2 Delta was old, Ableton sent me a free upgrade offer to Live Lite 4. So if you register your M-Audio Live Delta you will probably get the same offer. I don’t know if it will ReWire to ACID but I’m going to find out. (downloading now)

"What I meant was that the full version of Reason can be expanded by purchasing new modules to plug into the rack."

No it can't Reason is a fully contained Soft Studio, you cannot add other modules.

With Reason rewired into Cobase you have the ability to utilize any VST/VSTi at your disposal.

"With ACID and Vegas, I just have no use for them."

Reason is nothing like Acid, They of course all have there unique qualities, but to say you don't have a need for Reason with Acid and Vegas is very limited. Each to their own...Level Vibes

I was referring to the Reason Refills. I guess those are only sounds and not new modules. I never really looked closely because I don’t use Reason. I just knew there was a way to expand it through refills.

I’ll be the first to admit that my knowledge of Reason is very limited. Perhaps I should spend an afternoon going though some tutorials and really get to understand it better. In fact, I’ll assume you are a Reason and ACID user so I take your word there is something for ACID users in Reason and give it another look.
