Now that we have folder tracks it could be cool if was possible to add a Volume slider on it. I usually make a folder for drums, guitar, bass etc. and thought it would be nice to be able to controll the level of the folder. I do make busses and that is fine but maybe the bus could be placed on the foldertrack? or maybe call it somethin intirely different....

Then I have an issue with the projekt folders placed on my desktop. When I bring a folder from home to my "studio" I always end up placing it on the desktop because i carry it with me on a pendrive. Normally I bring it to listen to it on another system and it often end up with the fact that I decide to record a little on the project. When I press record and the window opens I have to choose a folder to record in. To record on the folder on the desktop I have to browse through:Harddisc:,Documents and settings, My username, Desktop and THEN my folder. All other browsers I work with has the desktop as the very first choice and makes it all easier.

Also right now I have a problem with the recording window. It suddently doesn´t seem to "remember" the last folder I recorded in. Everytime I need to make a new take I have to browse again and again....

That was it for now :-)

hey homie, you can set the default folders for saving different types of folders in the options menu. If you always want to record to desktop (sounds messy to me, but have at it), you select the desktop as your default recording location. The reason it doesn't remember where you've saved is because it's always going to the default folder you designate in the options window.

Your folder volume slider thing was suggested elsewhere (possibly by you?). I think a better option is a 'select all tracks within folder' hotkey. Press it, and then you could grab any volume slider in the folder and adjust all the levels simultaneously, or route all tracks to a certain bus, or pan the tracks together (or adjust send levels). It's much more versatile, if slightly less elegant. But to add another volume control when there are already so many (event level, track level, track level envelope, bus level, bus level envelopes, not to mention event fades, extra buss sends, and the volume control on all the plug-ins in the chain) would just cloud the picture, IMHO. Revisiting an old project, it can be tough enough to figure out all the parameters that are affecting a track's volume without adding another layer to the onion.

hey man ;-)

I actually know about the default forlder option in preferences but in my system it doesnt work anymore. Even though a default folder is selected it doesnt remember it after one take. I´ll look into it again and come back to it... They added the folder option thing in Acid 5 but what function has the browser in the recording window? Isnt it a little Illogical :-) that you have to go through preferences to select a new default folder everytime you change projects? Maybe if the browser in the recording window opened the preferences for folders instead of just a folder... Anyway... what i meant before was try open the recording window and press: Browse... on other browsers you are able to go directly to the desktop folder and choose your folder on the desktop... This one in Acid doesnt. I have to browse;: Documents and settings>My username>Desktopfolder> And then my recording folder ;-)

As for the volume slider thing....

when I route the contents of a folder track to a bus Im able to see the meter of this foldertrack on the bus... that is cool. Actually I was more thinking of moving the Bus from the mastersection to the foldertrack and add the meter and all the things that the bus does. Why? Some suggests meters on each track but I dont need meters for making drums in acid for example. I need a meter and the ability to controll the sum of all the drums (like a bus do). I propably don´t like the fact that I work with both vertical and horizontal faders at the same time. Since acid mainly works with horizontal faders why not keep it that way with all the sliders?

Well I dont know... maybe its small things but I just thought it would work better for me that way...

Martian,

I have ACID set up to use the project folder as the default. This way all my recordings go in the same folder as the rest of my project.

To do this:

1. Select Options > Preferences > Folders tab
2. Choose the radio button Use a single default folder for project media saves
3. From the dropdown list select <Project>
4. Press OK to save

Now when you start a new project, the first thing you should do is save it into a new folder. Then forget about it. Everything you record will be placed in that project folder by default. So if you make it a folder on your desktop, that’s where you’ll find all the media you record. This should work.

Thanx JohnnyRoy

That was exactly what I needed. Guess I got confused with all the new folder options added. So far so good.

Hey JR, thanks, that's a good idea...I like that strategy, might have to give it a try.

Wouldn't it be cool (slight digression) if Acid Pro would autoname your record takes using the project name and a number, rather than calling everything Record Take X?

Yes, nice tip JR!
This should help keep my project files a little more organized.
Not always one of my strong points :-)

Oh Yea! Now you’re on to something good. That’s an *excellent* idea. It makes a whole lot more sense to me. Especially if you’re not recording to a project folder, you would easily be able to tell which tracks went with your project. I like that idea a lot.

Thought of that too :-)

The first time I used Acid....2.0 I think,- I renamed all my tracks in the acid window and thought that it renamed my audiofiles too... unfortunately it didn´t and I´ve been thinking of it since. So if acid could both autoname the recorded audiofiles and be able to rename the tracks in the acid window (Like when I change a track from audio 388 to guitar 1 or so) It could be really great.

I replied:
That sounds like a Windows XP limitation; you didn't mention what OS you are running. XP allows you to have multiple desktops and users.

I run XP home... Does that have anything to say?
