Subject:Artifact drivin' me nuts...

Once upon a time Sound Forge Audio Studio 7.0b (SFAS) worked flawlessly during playback, but now I'm getting a cell-phone-like artifact (you know, those high pitched chirps one gets when reception might be poor) along with an occasional click. It's not in the source because iTunes, Windows Media Player, and Winamp play the same file just fine. It happens with WAV and MP3, and reinstalling SFAS didn't solve anything. I've moved my sound card to another slot, uninstalled just about everything I can think of that might not have been there in the past, but still no solution. I've checked sample rates and can't find a discrepancy. The artifacts also occur randomly and don't have anything to do with CPU load - the performance monitor says 2-4% all the time. Any thought? Solutions?

newUser,

I was having this problem and I had to increase the latency of my sound card. That took care of it for me.

Where would I make that adjustment?
