Subject:How do VST Plugins work in SF8?

Hello all, I still own SF 4.5, but version 8 seems to have all the features I was missing so I'm considering to update it finally. I was just wondering how VST Plugins work and which bugs there are...I've read complaints about incompatibilities with Waves DirectX plugins (crashes) and some VST plugins like Elemental Audio Firium which apparently don't work at all? I also own a copy of Wavelab 4 and used that more often in the past due to it's VST support which work flawlessly but I always liked Soundforge better. I find it really cumbersome to do basic editing in Wavelab and the 100 dollar upgrade is a fair offer. Can anyone confirm these bugs and if yes - are there any updates on the way? So far all the VST plugs I've tested and used work great. Going from SF-4.5 to 8.0 is like trading in your VW bug for a Porsche 911. Except cheaper. |

I 've been trying some out. They seem to work O.K., except I can't seem to get the presets to work. Am I missing something? |

Hi Brian What VST plugin are you using? I've been using the BlueTube v2.0, EAS and URS, They work very well. George Ware |

I've been using Kjaerhus classic series plug-ins, as well as Tubester 2. Everything works, except for presets. Hopefully the update will fix this. |

Hi JTelles This is what I did with the Bluetube PEQ2A I created a user preset To save, click on the Floppy Disk (Save VST Preset As..) I have a folder (Bluetubes \ PEQ2A) in my VST Plugins folder and saved the preset there. I hope this helps George Ware |

Thanks for the suggestion George, It seems the presets work OK if you access the VST plugins through the Plug-in Chainer but not if you go through the FX Favorites (at least to preview them in real time the control knobs are not affected). Your procedure seems to be the alternative until we get the update... JTelles |

Ok there seems to be an issue with plugins in the Favorites List. My musicstore confirmed some issues. The salesman is quite familiar with SF and tested almost every plugin and I asked him again what bugs he encountered and made some notes this time. He said there are issues with some plugins chosen in the Favorites and vice versa...for example Soundhack plugins are supposed to work only if picked from favorites. Plugins like Elemental Audio Firium or Voxengo CurveEQ don't work from the Favorites List and he said that the Waves Transform Bundle plugs produce some crashes which it didn't with SF7. He also confirmed the bugs concerning the presets you wrote about. After all SF8 seems to be a great product anyway and I have yet to test the trial version and gonna order it next month when it ran out. I hope the trial works for 30 days? Can you save your stuff and everything? Message last edited on3/23/2005 9:44:11 AM byevolver. |

I'm not seeing any Waves issues. I'm using v5 of (DX) TransX Multi. As far as the EAS if you create a user preset use the EAS SAVE option. I'm using Eqium (VST) v2.1.2. George Ware |
