Hi, I dont know if this is the right place to get official type answer But ... I am registered for Acid Pro4 and the Sound Forge that came with it and would like to sell my older Acid style and Acid Music apps as well as maybe older Sound Forge XP( I think that was older version Sound Forge Studio?) and want to make sure that whoever buys them will not run into trouble registering them ? Obviously with Acid Pro4 I dont need the Acid Music 3 and Acid "Style" apps I own so ... ? I bought/own but not registered some of the Style apps (Latin and DJ etc nice just for the loops, you know?) and wonder how to ensure this ahead of selling them to avoid conflict with potential buyers ? Thanks Upfront :) gpam51605 Message last edited on3/21/2005 3:47:09 PM bygpam51605. |

I am not an expert on the legailities, but I don't think you have anything to sell. When you buy software or loops, you are buying a non-transferable licence to use the application or media for your own purposes, not the application or media itself. Anyway, how could you expect to sell Acid 4.0 and keep Acid 5.0 when you only paid an upgrade price for Acid 5.0? Don't you need to keep the licence for 4.0 that entitled you to buy 5.0 at the upgrade price? |

He doesn't have to, but the person buying his 4.0 can't use it to upgrade, AFAIK. Mario |

Mario is right. While other companies make you keep your old copies or even worse, they don’t allow you to transfer the license at all, Sony allows you to upgrade and sell your old copy. What you need to do is send an email to Sony support explaining that you would like to transfer your license to the new owner. Sony will invalidate your old license key and issue a new license key to the new owner. As Mario said, this new key cannot be used to upgrade to a newer version because you already upgraded using that license. I think this is extremely generous of Sony. Like I said, lots of software companies don’t even allow you to transfer the license to the software even if you don’t upgrade. Some don’t even allow you to sell the software at all! (i.e., the license key is locked to your machine and the new owner cannot register to get a new one. Can you say, “dead end purchase?”) Sony ROCKS! ~jr |

Thanks JR, I admit my error. Sony is certainly being generous. Sonic Foundry was always up there in lights for being the most user-friendly software company (free 8-packs, free acid xpress, get media, multi-machine installations for own use etc etc). Sony have exceeded expectations by staying with SF's policies. |
