Subject:Have bought 8.0 - Should I uninstall 7.0?

Any users have any thoughts about the advisability or necessity of uninstalling previous versions before installing 8.0? At present, I've 6.0 and 7.0 living happily together, but might this be a good time to wave them both goodbye? (I still have the install.exe files) |

It is usually a good idea to keep the previous version around until the first update for the new one is released. That way, if you do come across a problem in your workflow with no workarounds, you can still fall back on the old one. J. |

Sonic is right. Keep SF7 on your computer until a working update is out. I have SF7 and SF8 on the same computer for now. Terry |

Oh yes, definitely keep your SF 7. You'll probably go right back to it when you discover all the bugs in SF 8. Sorry, Sony, but IMHO SF8 is more like a beta release. I really like all the new features (especially the keyboard scrubbing), but there are too many problems which get in the way when doing serious work. This has been my experience anyway. |

But aren't we going to run into the same problem that happened when we all upgraded to SF7 from SF6 and Wave Hammer went into demo mode? This happened to a bunch of people, even those who accepted the default install locations from SF7. I think I another thread here where people were talking about WH going into demo mode after 'upgrading' to SF8. Jack |

Yeah, when you eventually uninstall 7 it will probably take the Wave Hammer license with it. Just reinstall 8 to get it back. |

OK - many thanks. I've left the old versions where they are. It may help others to make the decision if this question can be answered... 8.0 has automatically imported several of my own templates and other settings, esp in Wave Hammer, from 7.0... would this data have been lost if I'd uninstalled 7.0 first? |

Phil: Hard to say, as not all software reacts the same. Case in point: Just upgraded from Reason 2.5 to 3.0. The installer asks to uninstall the old version before installing the new one. Having read posts on the Propellerheads site, I copied my old refills and other stuff that I didn't want wiped out by the install to my external hard drive. Proceeded with the install of 3.0, and when I went to open Reason 3.0, all my old stuff was accessible in the old positions (templates, Reason songs, refills, etc.). So there were no worries. What I would do is to copy over all the stuff you want to save to an external hard drive or some such that the installer can't oiverwrite. I don't have SF8 yet, as I just ordered it Saturday and won't get it until sometime late this week,. Jack |
