Subject:Recording changes in SF8?

I've been using SF 6 and SF 7 for years to record from applications like Sonar.
With SF8, I'm seeing some different behaviour in regard to monitoring and level setting. Although it wasn't a problem in SF6 or SF7, when I turn monitor on and do Record/Remote, I imeediately get a feedback loop. Monitoring did not cause this loop in SF6 or SF7.
Then, if I turn monitoring off, I don't get anything recorded in SF.
I have the volume up in the volume application, and I'm muting inputs that might cause a loop, such as microphone.
Has something changed in SF8 to cause this behaviour?

Thanks, all.
Eric

Uncheck Options->Preferences->Audio->"Monitor Audio Input While Recording". That will get rid of the feedback and allow you to record with or without Monitor checked.

We'll be changing the default to false and moving this control into the Record dialog in 8.0a (and fixing it so you don't have to have Monitor checked if it is enabled).

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I already was aware I could uncheck monitor. However, not having monitor checked makes level setting a little wierd. My concern is that that internal recording routing has changed in SF8. Now, it may have changed for the better once I understand it, I don't know.
I've always thought it would be a great feature to have a level control right in the SF recording dialog window. One that would show the meter level of what was coming in without doing real time monitoring during recording. That way you could set the level at that one location, and not have to be adjusting the windows volume controls, etc..
Also, if you are goiong to be doing some work on the record section, it would be great to have some sort of feedback cut off so you don't damage your ears or speakers when monitor feeds back.

Thank you
Eric
