ok, here's the deal. I need to know how to get this done.

i have a beautiful song by michael english (i surrender all). All it is, is piano a little violin and him singing.

I want to know how to extract his voice using sound forge so that I can have just his voice on the track.

- OR -

how do I mute the piano and violin....what are some techniques I can use to do this. I really hope I can do this. I know sound forge can probably do this although it doesn't mention voice extraction in it's help file.

update: i just tried AV music gold because it said it could to voice extractor and i tried it. It did cut the music down but the voice sound all robotronic to the point where it wasn't pleasant sounding and everynow and then you could of a muffled piano melody.

The short answer is, no, there's no good way to do this. Not just in Sound Forge, but anywhere.

thanks sonic...i kinda figured it would be next to imposible seeing how there is no exact way for software to differintiate voice from music...it can only guess. Only when there is technology like meta data or some sort of digital code embeded in the songs that seperates the different entities of a song. but i dont think they ever will........no one wants their completed work edited after they put it in mp3 or something..

Believe it or not, Aiwa came out with a shelf system that actually did a remarkable job at removing the voice from a song. I think it was like the NSX-V2100 model. But your best option is to order the soundtrack from Michael English. Or do a search for "karaoke" or "accompaniment track" and the song title.

remember a mini hi-fi component system of SONY that included the "karaoke" function? i have a MHC-991AV. It removes (i dont even understand how) lead vocals, but the back vocals are still there.

How was it done? Maybe Sony can include this option is SF8? It could help!

It is there already, under channel conversion (the last preset). Naturally, it doesn't work well on most material - this is not Sony's fault. This is how the commercial "Karaoke machines" work.
